Gaither “Solid” In Workout

Former Maryland tackle Jared Gaither, whom the Vikings might be interested in selecting during the up-coming supplemental draft, had a “solid” workout today in front of pro scouts according to ESPN’s Len Pasquarelli. The numbers on the 6-8, 324-pound Gaither: between 4.98 and 5.14 in the 4o; a vertical leap of 31 1/2 inches; a broad jump of 9 feet, 3 inches; 4.49-4.53 in the short shuttle; and 7.12-7.25 in the cone drill. The only blemish for Gaither: his inability to do more than 15 reps in the 225-pound bench-press owing to a slightly injured shoulder.

Scouts for over half-a-dozen teams were reportedly at the workout, with Atlanta and Jacksonville both sending multiple representatives. The consensus among them seemed to be that Gaither would definitely be picked in the special draft coming up July 12. If a team does indeed take a player in that draft, they must give up a corresponding pick in the following year’s regular draft, and must fit the player into its rookie pool allocation when signing him.
