Adrian Peterson may have taken the field without a red jersey, but that doesn’t mean Viking coaches were in any hurry to get him into the middle of heavy action. Peterson, who’s wearing a special undershirt fitted with a device to help protect his collarbone, sat out the morning’s most physical session, the “live” 11-on-11 drills. Brad Childress told Viking writer Kevin Seifert afterward that he “didn’t notice” Peterson’s absence from these drills, but proposed that coaches had kept him out because they involved third-and-long situations, and Peterson was not yet up to speed on pass protections.
Other stuff that happened:
Ben Leber, Brian Robison and Visanthe Shiancoe all got back on the field after missing time with injury. Shiancoe got lit up by Mike Doss, so maybe he wishes he’d sat out another day.
Marcus McCauley continues making good plays on our below-average pass-catchers, leading us to believe he will be great at covering other teams’ fifth receivers.
Brooks Bollinger got heckled by some dude when he under-threw a receiver. Musta been a Gopher fan.
Both Sean Jensen and Kevin Seifert characterized the second practice as sloppy, with Seifert saying it looked like the team had dead legs. There were numerous false starts and other mental mistakes, prompting Brad Childress to wrap things up 20 minutes early. Chilly just wanted to get back to his office and listen to some ABBA, is what I think.
