Could Daunte Play?

Josh McCown has been starting at quarterback for the Raiders, but he got scuffed in their loss to the Bears, and now it looks like there’s at least a chance former Viking Daunte Culpepper could start Sunday when Oakland visits the Miserydome.

There’s also a chance that JaMarcus Russell could make his NFL debut in that game. A Russell v. Peterson match-up would’ve been interesting at least from a selling-a-dog-game perspective, but of course with AD out, that will not happen.

Seeing Daunte back in the Dome might be amusing in a perverse way, but that amusement would quickly evaporate if somehow he re-captured his old magic and led the Raiders to victory. That, after the Williamson dust-up, AD’s injury and the Dwight Smith flap, would make for a grand-slam of negative pub for the Purple.
