How to Make Your Blog Blow Up

A fellow calling himself Vikes Geek has made waves in the blogosphere this morning by claiming Brad Childress is about to be fired by Zygi Wilf and replaced with Leslie Frazier.  From Vikes Geek’s site:

"A source close to Vikings’ owner Zygi Wilf has indicated that Wilf is contemplating buying out the remainder of current head coach Brad Childress’ contract. The buyout would elevate current defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier to head coach for the remainder of this season. Wilf is said to be displeased not only with Childress’ on-field results but also with the second-year coach’s lack of appeal among the fan base. The move could come as early as this week."

I have no idea who this Vikes Geek fellow is.  He could be Zygi Wilf himself or someone employed by Zygi.  He could be a mental patient.  What I do know is that the guy got linked by PFT this morning and is probably having the biggest day he’s ever had.

Traffic is the name of the game in blogging.  Get traffic and you’re somebody, get no traffic and you’re, well, me.  The point is that we all want traffic, and are willing to do just about anything to get it.  But should that include making stuff up out of thin-air and hoping some big site will buy your well-worded jive and therefore link to it?

This Vikes Geek guy claims in his comments that he has an “inside source” that he can’t identify.  I assert that VG’s inside source is in fact his own imagination.  Of course I could be wrong.  If Chilly gets fired this afternoon, I will bow down to Vikes Geek and his source, and never ever question the man’s integrity again.  However, at this point, I don’t buy it.  I don’t think some dude with a free blogger account and a crappy generic template has contacts close enough to Wilf that he would know anything.  I think VG made up some bull, and got way lucky when PFT, who never met a story too outlandish for them to not repeat, decided to link him.

Kudos to you, Vikes Geek.  I hope to one day also get a great link and huge traffic.  But I hope I won’t have to flat-out lie to get it.
