Defensive end has suddenly become the most talked-about position for the Vikings. Of course we had Ray Edwards getting suspended for taking shady supplements. That necessitated the signing of a new lineman…hence yesterday’s report that the Vikes had picked up Otis Grigsby from the Panthers’ practice squad.
But wait, there’s more. Cause now we’ve learned that the guy we thought would replace Edwards in the starting line-up, Erasmus James, has been placed on IR after re-injuring the ACL he spent all of last season rehabbing. James’s roster spot will be taken by James Herron, a linebacker who has been on the practice squad all year since being cut by the Patriots (who originally signed him as revenge for our claiming Garrett Mills off waivers). The right defensive-end position will now presumably be taken by Brian Robison and Jayme Mitchell, with Grigsby being worked in there someplace.
On a side-note…despite all the problems the Vikes have been having at DE, there has been not a murmur about them picking up Simeon Rice, who has been cut three times already this year, first by the Bucs, then by the Broncos and then by the Colts. I guess Rice really is done.
