Jerry Rice and Tim Brown become eligible the following year, and the voters will keep that in mind. The guy who appears to be on the outside looking in for a while is Andre Reed. The problem for him is threefold: 1) All of these other great WRs 2) Zero Super Bowl wins 3) That Bills team already has two guys plus their coach in and Bruce Smith is an absolute lock when he becomes eligible. It looks like the voters are balking at putting that many guys in from a team that didn't win any of those Super Bowls. As far as Carter being first-ballot worthy: I have made the argument elsewhere that while I think he belongs in (next year), first ballot doesn't seem to apply to him. To me, a 1st ballot guy needs to fit at least three of these four categories: 1) Monster Stats - Check 2) Athletically Freakish - Carter did have great body control, so.....mmmmaaybe..ok Check 3) Champion - nope 4) Changed the Game - Carter was a symptom, not the cause, so...nope That leave Carter with only two out of four categories <em>that in my </em>mind a guy should fill at least three of in order to be a first ballot guy. Of course that's just my thought. If first ballot really means something, then this sort of demanding checklist is appropriate. I heard Carter had been a real jerk towards the media during his career, and that is why he got the snub.Career wise there is no question Carter should be in first ballot, but similar to Michael Irvin they may vote him in the following year because of personality.(which is BS) People get elected to the Hall Of Fame by Sports writers.
