The Vikings have said goodbye to safety Dwight Smith. This move became inevitable after Smith was busted for pot possession late last season. Actually, it probably became inevitable before that, when Smith started talking crap about Brad Childress. Or maybe it was when he laughed it up on the sidelines during the Purple’s ass-whooping at the hands of the Packers.
Dwight gave the Vikings plenty of reason to cut him, is what I’m trying to say. Now safety becomes a position of primary concern during free agency and the draft. Probably the best free agent option is Dallas’s Ken Hamlin. The Giants’ Gibril Wilson is also out there, as is Omar Stoutmire of the Redskins. In-house options would include Mike Doss and Tank Williams, but both those guys are free-agents as well.
