Antwan Odom was scheduled to make a visit to the Vikings, but in the end he never made it to Winter Park. The Cincinnati Bengals signed Odom to replace Justin Smith, who left for the 49ers (and was also on the Vikings’ wish-list). Former Titan Odom had 8 sacks in rotation with Travis LaBoy in 2007.
Speaking of Travis LaBoy – he would’ve perhaps been the Vikings’ next best option after Odom was taken off the board. Unfortunately, he’s going to the Cardinals. And Bobby McCray is gone to the Saints. That leaves Jevon Kearse, who Brad Childress indicated some interest in during an interview earlier today.
The Vikings will likely have to compete with the Tennessee Titans for Kearse, who has said he wouldn’t mind returning to his old team. And the Titans have a hole at defensive end, as indicated by the loss of both McCray and Odom.
If Kearse signs with Tennessee, then the Vikings will definitely have to spend their 17th overall pick on a defensive end. There won’t be any way around it, will there?
