Quarterback Talk: How About Chris Simms?

The Vikings are still sitting here without picking up a viable back-up quarterback. Options are dwindling. There was, however, one interesting development today…the Bears traded Brian Griese to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Let’s not even get into why the Bucs, who already have 4 QBs on their roster, would bother trading for Griese, especially when they could’ve waited a couple days for the Bears to release him. The ways of Jon Gruden are too mysterious for a mere mortal like myself to understand. The important thing, from a Vikings perspective, is that the Bucs now have a giant QB surplus, and will be looking to boot at least one of them off the island.

That one is likely to be Chris Simms, who hasn’t played since having his spleen removed a couple years ago. Simms was supposed to be the back-up to Jeff Garcia last year, but his recovery from the splenectomy wasn’t as fast as expected, and he wound up on IR. Simms is still under contract to the Bucs, but could be released. Or the Bucs could trade him.

There are reasons not to go for Chris Simms, the main one being his injury history. However, we know Chris is a smart quarterback, and he played well at times under Gruden. So…should the Vikings make a play for Chris Simms?

Ballhype: hype it up!
