Former Vikings great Carl Eller did his best impression of a current Viking early Wednesday morning, getting arrested for fleeing police, assault and refusing a breath test.
From the St. Paul Pioneer-Press:
Around 1 a.m., police pulled Eller over near 8th and Russell avenues north in Minneapolis. Eller refused to consent to a breath test after he was pulled over, according to the report.
Two officers were injured during the exchange, police said. One received medical treatment for a bruise. Another had “apparent minor injuries” and did not need medical treatment.
The type of weapon cited on the police report was “fists.”
Eller, 66, of Minneapolis, was booked into the Hennepin County Jail and is being held on suspicion of fleeing police in a motor vehicle, fourth-degree assault and refusing to take a breath test on a misdemeanor DWI, according to the police report.
Assault and fleeing a police officer are felonies. Refusing to give a breath test is a gross misdemeanor.
Eller was also nailed for drunk driving in 2006, and ended up paying a fine and serving a few days community service. I think I speak for all of us when I say I hope Carl gets his life straightened out…and that I’m glad this wasn’t Bryant McKinnie again.

Give him a break. Football players end up living with life long pain from their injuries and it gets worse as you get older. Carl Eller was stalked by the St. Paul and Minneapolis police who were just waiting for him to make a mistake. They provoked him and the police admitted they were sitting outside his house waiting for him. Profiling is prejudice!
