I never thought there was any realistic chance of beastly Kansas City Chiefs defensive end Jared Allen getting traded to the Vikings, especially after they slapped the franchise tag on him.
Now, however, it looks like a foregone conclusion that Allen will be traded by the Chiefs. And yes, the Vikings are one of two teams that are talking to Kansas City about the sack artist.
Here’s what Allen himself had to say about the situation (via FOXsports.com):
It’s a situation that works out best for both sides. I can go to a team that is competing for a championship right now. The Chiefs can get valuable draft picks to rebuild with.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are the other team in the running for Allen. The Vikings reportedly have a visit set up with Allen for this weekend.
The franchise tag means the Vikes will have to cough up at least a first and a third. They will also have to sign Allen to a new contract, probably one in the neighborhood of the $72 million deal Dwight Freeney got from the Colts.
Can the Vikings make this happen? Would Jared Allen transform our defense from pretty good to elite? And what about his past personal issues? This could be huge.

Peppers had down year and is 4 years older I'd like Peppers but would rather Allen for the price tag. WE DON'T have to give 1st and 3rd thats just if we had signed him as a restricted free agent we are neg. a trade.
