Vikings Closing in on Jared Allen

Jared Allen is as good as in purple…that’s the feeling one gets after the new report that has the Vikings upping their trade offer to the Chiefs from this year’s first- and third-round picks to those picks plus next year’s second-rounder.

Of course, the Vikings would still have to work out a new contract with Allen, but that seems almost in the bag as well.  When all is said and done, the Vikes will likely have given up three draft picks for Allen, plus given Allen himself a $60 million contract with $25 million in guaranteed money.  That guy had better not even so much as look at an alcoholic beverage, I’m telling you.

Ballhype: hype it up!

I agree, trade up to get Gholston or Harvey if you have to.  Chiefs are selling high. We gave up Moss for Napoleon Harris, a busted draft pick, and a one day unlimited pass at Camp Snoopy and we are giving up all this.  Herschel Walker has taught us nothing.

I’ll do this ONLY if they give us a 4th rounder this year and Tyler Thigpen back.

Merling is a slug, I would hate to see that bust on our roster.  You sure you wanna risk another Erasmus James or Kenechi Udeze?  Lets get the best DE in the league now so we can stop saying "if we only had a pass rush."  We still have plenty of picks to add depth later.

Yeah, Merling scares the hell outta me.  Just another Udeze/James type of player.  I’m all for Allen, I just wish they would get it over with.  As much as I hate the thought of giving up our 2nd rounder next year, it pretty much is what the initial offer was for – a 1st rounder this year and a second next year.  The 3rd rounder we probably will be giving away is Denver’s pic, so we still have all of our 2-7 picks with an additional 6th courtesy of Mr. Williamson.  Not too bad if you ask me.

As much as I love the Vikes, I can’t help but feel that they gave up way too much.  It feels like a reach from a desprate team.  I don’t think that we are desparate, and I think Scott Studwell and the college scouting staff have done a great job except in the area of D-ends.  And year after year we listen to the propaganda of how "We didn’t think this guy was going to fall to us but, there he was." giving us false hope for one more season.  I feel that Miami would have given up Jason Taylor for less and he is carrying less baggage.  Don’t get me wrong It is a huge hole filled and hopfully for many years to come.  But we have many more weak areas that Scott S. and company are going to roll up there sleeves and have a great draft to fill them in the later rounds.
