Chilly Lightens Up
Apparently Brad Childress does have a sense of humor about himself…at least going by this little snippet from an interview he did on Chris Myers’ radio show:
CHRIS MYERS: “Mike Holmgren - you’re part of that coaching tree. He’s one of those guys that you learned under. I know Andy Reid, of course, and this is Mike’s last year in coaching.”
BRAD CHILDRESS: “Well, I’m part of the Mike Holmgren mustache tree as well.”
CHRIS MYERS: “OK, you don’t see a lot of that anymore.”
BRAD CHILDRESS: “No, you don’t, but that rubbed off on me I guess.”
CHRIS MYERS: “Well he [Mike Holmgren] always jokes that he gets mistaken for Craig Stadler and it bugs him. So, I don’t
blame him. Who do you get mistaken for?”BRAD CHILDRESS: “I get mistaken for Major Dad. For those that can remember for Colonel Klink on Hogan’s Heroes, among others, and I’m sure some I can’t name.”
A few other things Childress occasionally gets mistaken for:
- A lamp post.
- A hat-rack.
- A tree.
- A sleeping person.
Some people he never gets mistaken for:
- Bill Walsh
- Vince Lombardi
- Bud Grant
- Tom Landry
- Joe Gibbs
Okay, maybe he does occasionally get mistaken for Joe Gibbs…but only the latter-day, senile, two-time-outs-in-a-row-calling Gibbs.
I know…kind of harsh. But whatever.
Seriously? Sounds like you’re the one that needs to lighten up. As bland as he is, Chilly is still a straight-up no nonsense guy. So what if he doesn’t give a fuck about the media. He’s a football coach, not a spokesman or PR rep. We have people being paid good money for that function. Let him coach, and judge him on those merits alone. So yeah, rip on the sub-par job he’s done with sub-par talent, but let’s stop pretending Chilly is supposed to entertain. That’s what the athletes get paid to do.

May 2nd, 2008 at 4:32 pmI don’t know. Is an 8-8 Chilly as entertaining as an 8-8 Tice. We wanted a new face to lead the Vikes and most were happy we got him. So like the T-Jax supporters lets give him his 3rd year to see if a difference has been made. I cried for Tice’s head watching an uninspired Vikings get their nuts handed to them in Carolina and I’ll probobly do it again if I don’t see these "superstars" step up and play like they really want to win.PS If Booty looks good in camp and pre season and Jax faulters, start the QB project over with a kid who has a heart to win. I just don’t see that heart in T-Jax. I hope I’m wrong.Hey JD- how’s life?

Run a tram from the fairgrounds parking for Sunsay tailgaters while utilizing the parking space and a short mono rail from downtown.
