Here’s something Vikings fans have heard before: Troy Williamson is working hard this off-season to improve his hands.
Thankfully for us, Troy is now doing all his hard, sure-to-be-futile work with another team, the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Oh, but Troy really is improving this year. Why, he’s caught almost every ball thrown his way during Jaguars OTAs and minicamp!
Just like he caught almost every ball thrown his way during his work-outs last year when the machine allegedly threw something like 8 million balls at him?
Newsflash to the Troy Williamson Fan Club: Any guy with halfway decent receiver skills can catch every ball during work-outs. It’s catching them during games that requires something beyond mere adequacy.
Williamson proved over the course of his ill-fated Vikings career that he lacks the concentration necessary to be a good receiver. He just doesn’t have it upstairs. He gets spooked. He can’t translate the hard work off the field into consistent performance on it. He’s like some guy who knocks balls into the seats in BP but waves and misses at every breaking pitch he gets during real action and ends up back in AAA.
Believe me, if football had minor leagues, Troy would be down there right now. He ain’t a big league player. And no amount of off-season happy-talk will change that.
