Packers Set to Cave

I’ve given up trying to predict what’s going to happen in the Brett Favre mess.  Originally I thought he would surely return to the Packers and wind up the starter.  Then when they offered him the $20 million or $25 million or whatever it actually was to stay away I thought surely he would never wear the green and gold again.  Now it appears I should’ve stuck with my original instinct.  The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel says the Packers have given up negotiating the “marketing deal” and are ready to welcome Favre back to training camp as early as Monday.  Furthermore, sources close to the situation report the Packers are no longer saying Aaron Rodgers is for sure their starter.  Instead they will open the job up to competition, giving Favre a chance to win back his old spot.

So now I’m going to say what I said at first and should’ve stuck with:  Favre will be starting for the Packers come opening night in Lambeau Field.  Why did I – or any of us – ever believe anything else?

Ballhype: hype it up!

I may be wrong, but my instinct tells me that the Packers are using this stance as leverage for a trade.  They talked about “using this to our advantage”, but I don’t believe they think having Favre create a circus out of their training camp to be an advantage.  I don’t know who they are thinking of trading him to, but I think that is going to be the next step.

Then again….maybe they are trying to screw Brett by opening the competition, telling him he doesn’t have it anymore, than releasing him or trading him close enough to the beginning of the season that he couldn’t play against for Minnesota (and against them) in week one.

    Heck….who knows???

Dear chris, have a beer! Your way to uptight. Relax, it’s NFL time. Lets all enjoy it. The Vikes nor the Packers are going anywhere. This is just part of the fun.
