Preseason Opener Plans

The Vikings play their first preseason game tomorrow night against Seattle.  Brad Childress says the starters will go a quarter or maybe a little more if circumstances dictate (last year the offense got screwed out of some reps because the defense kept forcing turnovers and returning them for TDs).  Tarvaris Jackson will get the first-team reps at QB, with Gus Frerotte second and Brooks Bollinger third.  Brian Robison, Marcus McCauley and Garrett Mills are the three players listed as unavailable.

If I seem less-than-enthused about this game…well, I am.  I hate preseason.  It is a blight on humanity.  There should be no more than two preseason games.  At least then teams would feel compelled to play their starters well into the second half to get them enough reps.  These games are little more than televised scrimmages and it’s a joke.  Of course I’ll still watch because I guess it’s my job sort of.

Don’t you think 18 regular season games would increase injuries? Maybe stay with 16 but fewer pre-season matchups
Otherwise we get a number of of new records set with 2 extra games.
Out of curiousity, how many  records set by 16 game players might not have been had the old 14 game record holding players had those extra games. Anyone have insight on that?
and… if going to 18 games should we have a record book for each era? Single game record excluded.  I still think 18 is way too many.
Greetings to all my Buds. My phys rehab is over so I have to learn to walk on my own with some, but limited, improvements.

I don’t want them to add more regular season games, just get rid of at least two preseason games.  Yes I realize they would lose money if they did this but their fiscal concerns are not my concerns.  I’m looking at this in purely selfish terms – I do not want to have to sit through/cover four excruciating and meaningless preseason games.
