Not to be lost amidst the positivity over the Carolina win is that the Vikings have been pitiful in the red zone. They are currently dead last in the NFL in converting inside-the-20 chances into touchdowns – 1-8 or 12.5% if you’re the kind of person who needs percentages. They scored 2 TDs against Carolina but neither helped their red-zone number – one was a fumble return and the other a 34-yard score to Visanthe Shiancoe. Obviously, if you expect to win a lot, you have to cash in a better percentage of those chances. You’re not going to get return touchdowns and long passing scores consistently enough. Here’s where play calling really factors in. The cleverest offensive minds find ways of conquering defenses when there’s less field for them to cover. Unfortunately, we have Brad Childress and his stooge Darrell Bevell.
