Jimmy Johnson Rips the Vikings

I usually hate Jimmy Johnson and his idiot hair but I’m afraid I have to agree with what he just said on the FOX halftime show.  They were talking about the Vikings‘ horrid special teams and Johnson went off on us for getting cute with the kick-offs.  Just kick it and cover, Johnson said.  Exactly.  Quit with the lame squibs and pop-up kicks that just end up giving the Bears good field position.  The one time they kicked it deep they ran down and easily covered Devin Hester.  Yes, I realize Hester is good, but he is not Jesus.  He can be tackled.  Man up a little bit.  Actually, at this point, I think a change needs to be made.  Paul Ferraro needs to be let go as special teams coach.  That part of the team has been dismal overall this year.  Of course it’s Brad Childress‘s call to kick the ball short against Hester.  Childress just needs to let that crap go.

Update:  Hmm, the Vikes booted the opening second half kick-off deep.  Not only did they tackle Devin Hester easily but the ball popped out.  It was called a fumble but the Bears challenged and got it back.  Still, look what happened when they just kicked it deep.  Almost got a fumble and a short field to start the second half.  Can we can the cute kick-offs now?

What I said before. This team cannot put a complete game together on O/D/Spec Teams. Chilly has figured out his offense can move with Gus, the D has a high payroll but I don’t see the smash mouth attitude from half of them and that hurts us. Special teams coaching was overlooked prior to last week, as the worst coached group in the bunch. Jimmy said exactly what I meant last week. I described after Reggies TD’s how I observed basic coverage plans as a high school assistant. Not only are Vikes special teams not coached at basic principles of coverage , they look slow, lost, and out of persuit position. As was written here, lame squibs, pop ups, etc., is just a bunch crap not backed up with poor coverage.
We finally get an offense clicking and actualyy a little better play calling and the D forgets to show up and special teams gives them a helping had in letting the Bears keep in the game and win. This could havve been the blow out we needed to resurge some of the spirit and attitude this team was lacking. They just don’t seem to want to put it all together.

I meant “crap calls backed up by poor coverage”
All in all it falls back on Klink. If he can’t get his coaches to run on the same cylinder and get these guys to play as a team.
This is a good team going to waste by poor coaching.
Hey Danz, could this be they are hoping by keeping Chilly around it might be a motivator to lure McNabb during free agency?

Jimmy Johnson said cover the lanes, he was exactly right.

Special teams, aren’t they suppose to be working on that in July and August. I’ve watched the NFL for a long time and I’m sure it’s gone by my ears when the announcers have said things about special teams through the years, but the Vikes special teams are so weak…..unbelievably so….as old John McKay use to say about when he coached the early Tampa Bay, he was offended that team was the worst in history, maybe second worst wouldn’t be that bad, but these guys are like the worst at times in history. Chin Up! I’ll keep my support no matter what and will support these guys till season’s end and then it is up to the administration to decide.
