Jared Allen continues to make all the news in Vikingland. Today the defensive end was fined $50,000 by the league for two low hits on Matt Schaub during Sunday’s game against Houston – despite the fact that neither play drew a flag from the officials. Allen refused to comment on the fine, which he has appealed. The good news is that he didn’t get suspended – the bad news is that his shoulder sprain will probably keep him out this Sunday against the Packers anyway (though he has attempted to practice this week).
Allen said earlier this week that he thought Houston’s accusations of dirty play were baloney. And Brad Childress stuck up for his guy, saying he didn’t think the plays were dirty either. Various Texans players would beg to differ. Houston tackle Eric Winston said on the radio today that, had he and his teammates realized during the game that Allen hit Schaub low, they would’ve retaliated against him. Yeah? And those were such blatantly dirty hits that the officials and the other guys on the field didn’t even realize they were dirty? What gives here? Besides Roger Goodell doing his Judge Roy Bean bit again. Total nonsense.
