A sense of foreboding set in early, during the first offensive series in fact, when Gus Frerotte got sacked twice and missed his receiver badly on the only throw he got off. Second series – Frerotte fumbles the snap and the sense of foreboding gets worse. Then the Vikings settle down: Frerotte hits Visanthe Shiancoe for a big gainer and Adrian Peterson has a couple of nice runs. A Ryan Cook false start stalls the drive but the Vikes end up with a field goal.
Sandwiched between the first two Vikings offensive series was a nice defensive stuff by the Purple when the Bucs went for it on fourth down. The second Bucs offensive try was scuttled by a terrible late hit penalty on some dopey Tampa Bay offensive lineman but they ended up getting a field goal to tie it 3-3. It looks like there will be running room for the Vikes today – they might have trouble passing though unless they start handling the blitz better. Bobby Wade left with an injury early but looks like he should return. Jeff Garcia’s scrambling is causing problems and Warrick Dunn – who’s burned us in the past – is having a nice game so far.
