Our Defensive Line is Full of Steroid-Taking Thugs

Okay, maybe I got a little carried away with the headline.  Our defensive line isn’t actually full of guys who cheat and low-blow and generally play dirtier than four Kyle Vanden Bosches.  It only seems like that sometimes – this week especially, with the Williamses having their piss-pill suspension appeals heard, and Jared Allen getting called onto the carpet and slapped with a $25,000 fine – and now Ray Edwards receiving his inevitable fine for late-hitting Jeff Garcia (and apparently leg-whipping another player earlier in the same game).  Edwards got docked $25,000 too – which hurts him in the pocketbook a lot more than it hurts Jared.  I guess Chilly‘s lame defense didn’t carry much weight with the NFL.

It must be some kind of record – a team having all four starting defensive lineman face some kind of disciplinary procedure in the same week.  And the worst part isn’t even the fines and possible suspensions – it’s the toll this all has to be taking on these guys physically.  Pat and Kevin both had to fly to New York in the middle of the week, and Kevin reportedly was in a hearing for 12 hours.  What the hell did they grill him about for 12 freaking hours?  And don’t forget that Jared had to leave on Tuesday – and took Leslie Frazier with him as his defense witness, meaning the whole practice schedule had to be rearranged.  There are going to be some very tired, possibly ill-prepared Vikings along the D-line come Sunday in Jacksonville.
