The Atlanta Falcons struggled mightily to put the Vikings away today, allowing them an opportunity to come back from down 24-7. Minnesota cut the deficit to 24-17 before finally running out of chances. And, frankly, that was the appropriate way for the game to end. The Vikings flat out did not deserve to win this game the way they played. Teams that fumble the ball six times, losing three of them, cannot feel that they’ve earned a shot at victory. It was too bad too because, in many ways, the Vikes outplayed Atlanta today. Minnesota’s defense performed particularly well, especially late when the team was trying to come back. Unfortunately, the Vikes had dug themselves too deep a hole. Now the Falcons are on their way to the playoffs and the Vikings will have to wait and see what happens between the Bears and Packers tomorrow night. We could still clinch the division before having to face the Giants next week, but it would definitely feel like we backed into it.
