Tom Coughlin has said his team will give its all this weekend against the Vikings, but there’s such a thing as prudence too, and the reality is that the Giants don’t need this game for anything and therefore have little or no motivation to put guys out there who aren’t 100%. This leads to the possibility that the Giants will sit many of their starters, including running back Brandon Jacobs who has been struggling for weeks with a bad knee. Jacobs was listed as questionable on today’s injury report, as were starting right tackle Kareem McKenzie and starting defensive tackle Barry Cofield. Starting tight end Kevin Boss may also miss the game after being listed as doubtful with post-concussion issues and an ankle injury. And one guy who will definitely not play – cornerback Aaron Ross who is also dealing with the effects of a concussion. That’s five starters with a reasonable chance of not playing. And even if some of them do suit up, I doubt Tom Coughlin would be crazy enough to leave them out there long.
My own advice to Coughlin? Sit all your starters. Except Eli Manning. We like it when he plays. Lots of picks.
