The Lions will bring in Vikings defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier to interview for the head coaching vacancy they created upon firing Rod Marinelli, who bears the dubious distinction of being the only man to lead a team to an 0-16 record (which is why he got canned). The Lions sported the worst defense in the league this year and are obviously looking to strengthen that part of their team, hence their interest in several highly-respected defensive minds as head coaching candidates, including Steve Spagnuolo of the Giants, Jim Schwartz of the Titans and Jerry Gray of the Redskins. They will also interview Jason Garrett who apparently isn’t a lock to take over the head job in Dallas if and when Jerry Jones brings the hammer down on Wade Phillips.
Frazier’s defense finished 6th overall this season in yards allowed, 1st against the rush (in spite of that hiccup against the Giants) and 18th against the pass. It’s a great thing for him to be getting any opportunity to interview for a head coaching job…yes, even if it’s the Lions. If he could go there and turn around that trainwreck of a defense…well, then he would be a candidate for Coach of the Decade, maybe even Coach of the Century.
