The Vikings will do just about anything to make Tarvaris Jackson into a legitimate NFL quarterback, including enroll him in mixed martial arts courses intended to improve his hip movement. Apparently, Tarvaris has really tight hips and needs to loosen them. I personally haven’t spent much time looking at or thinking about T-Jack’s hips, so I’ll have to take people’s word for it. It does seem to me that Chubby Checker would be the man to bring in on this one but, like I said, I don’t know.
This Tarvaris Jackson MMA story is interesting for a couple of reasons: 1) It would seem to indicate that the Vikings remain committed to Jackson, much to the chagrin of those who would prefer to not see him in a Vikings uniform anymore (unless he bought it at Foot Locker and is wearing it at a tailgate party). 2) Turns out the Vikings got hooked up with the MMA people via NFL insider Jay Glazer who revealed the team’s plans in an interview with a New York radio station. Glazer also talked about getting Jared Allen into a similar program that helped transform him from “a big, stiff white guy” into a fearsome off-the-edge pass rusher. And Glazer then mentioned that he was the one responsible for introducing his pal Mike Tomlin to Brad Childress, leading directly to Tomlin’s hiring as Vikings defensive coordinator and subsequent ascension to Steelers head coach. In other words, Jay Glazer is the man. Or he’s a pathological liar.
