Update: Matt Birk to Sign With Ravens

A bad off-season for the Vikings just got worse with the news, per Mike Florio‘s sources, that Matt Birk will sign with the Baltimore Ravens.  The six-time Pro Bowl center visited Baltimore yesterday and spoke about how impressed he was with the organization and coach John Harbaugh – and apparently their contract offer impressed him too.  The Vikings, for now, will have to roll with John Sullivan or Ryan Cook at center, unless something else surfaces.  I don’t like to get all gushy usually but this is really the end of an era for the Purple.  Birk was on the ’98 team that came within a field goal of the Super Bowl, though at the time he was still a back-up behind Jeff Christy.  He will one day be in the Ring of Honor, I would assume.  But for now he’s still an active NFL player…who will likely end his career in a different shade of purple.

Update:  The contract is for three years, $12 million, $6 million guaranteed.

Ok…don’t want to get all bandwagon-y…but this is turning out to be one shitty post-season.

We have done a grand total of NOTHING. Why do we keep losing out on every single guy out there? The only one that isn’t the Vikes fault is Doushmanzadeh (not a typo).

Come on Vikes! Make some fucking moves. This better be one hell of a draft class for us or we are in for some real trouble.

Your right, Not very Good news, Free Agency really hasn’t went the Vikes way period… See Cutler is meeting with McDaniels so won’t have a chance getting that done. Hope better things start to happen, I realize it is early yet…

    Quick question
Not to change the subject, How about Devery Henderson WR from the Saints? Any reason they haven’t looked at him???

  • Patrick

Wow the Vikings are laying an egg this off-season. wow this is going to be one crappy season.  so far.   no #1qb  only  !wr. and we lost birk.

  • eric

why do the vikings never get anyone i dont think that we are going to do any thing  with the O line we have now that we have lost birk

  • Mike

The Vikings never seemed to want Birk back, for whatever reason I dont know.  But they now have a lot of work to do on their offensive line.

I’m with you on getting another WR ,Chuck, and i am with all the other fans comments on this page, we have laid one big goose egg as far as the big named free agents. I still would try real hard to trade for Cutler, he could have some big years in Minnesota. I realize that he and the coach are talkin’, but hopefully there is still a slight chance he’ll demand a trade, pray it’s us and not the Cleveland Browns.

  • eric

ya maybe with a decent QB we could go somewhere

I think we blew this birk deal when we tried to get the ravens free agent center and failed. At that moment he realized we saw him as second best so he made up his mind to steer clear of minni.
