Vikings Miss Out Again: Weaver to the Eagles

Add Leonard Weaver to the list of targets the Vikings failed to get their hands on this off-season.  ESPN is reporting that Weaver, a Pro Bowl alternate last season with the Seahawks, has agreed to a one-year, $1.75 million deal with the Philadelphia Eagles.  This makes it almost a dead-solid certainty that the Vikes will match the offer sheet the Bengals signed Naufahu Tahi to.

So now the Vikings have missed out on four guys they apparently really wanted:  Jordan Gross, who never made it to free agency; Jason Brown who went to St. Louis; T.J. Houshmandzadeh, who went to Seattle because he thinks Tarvaris Jackson is an idiot; and Weaver, who probably also thinks Jackson is an idiot.  What a scintillating off-season this has been.

I would really like to know the real reason why all of these talented free agents  seem to run to the next available offer, after hearing that the Vikings are interested in them? Every player runs for the hills as soon as Minnesota is mentioned. We all know T-Jack is the main clog  in our artery, so why is’nt anything being done about it. Yes, i guess i answered my own question  as to why these free agents are ducking us, but is the QB situation the only reason?

They can’t seem to do anything right, It’s down right sickening… There’s got to be a better FB than Tahi out there, Never mind , They will see T -Jack and we know what happens next…

it could be chilly???? how does he come across to them. heard he was kinda distant to some and as stupid as this sounds those boys want some “love” with the money???? hey bernie, not to sound annoying about the subject, but my uncle and i were talking last nite about the subject of the vikings moving again. he’s a businessman in rochester and has a open line to one of his congress people in minnesota. the congressman has flat out said that the state of minnesota will not and does not feel at all press to spend tax doolars on funding a new stadium. he also said that the local taxes in hennepin county and the city of minneapolis would not be enough alone or with the money that ziggy puts up.ziggy says he won’t go it alone, and wants minnesotas help or he’ll go where the help from the local government and the nfl is there……do you know where that is????? this is how urgent it is. people in minnesota gotta tell there state leadres they want to keep the vikings , man…..

my uncle says that if ziggy does’nt get commitment by the end of the 2009 season he’ll have to make his decision. it’ll take 2 years to get it done in L.A. but the nfl wants a commitment from a team by the start of 2010 season. ziggy will pull them out if minnesota says no to the tax referrendium. the sad thing about it that most of the fans polled would vote yes to tax money, but the law makers are getting it from the special interest groups cause they’re the ones doing all the screaming. the fans are ignoring it thinking it will go away and the vikes will stay. geuss what guys, i’m said to say the only thing going away will be the vikes. i don’t follow them, but i’d be the first one to say it would be devestating.

Dave your gonna make us all cry!! Boohoo!! Not! What the hell do you want us to do about this then?  Only thing I see to get them to stay is cheer my ass off and hope for a Super Bowl then maybe the legistlature will vote yes, other than that there gone and there is nothing we can do about it, I’ve joined the momentum, e-mailed everyone on the list, I don’t see anything else I can do.  It’s the end of Minnesota football so lets make these last 2-3 years memorable.  Stop posting on this issue every other day please.

  • Those We Don’t Speak Of

Oh my gosh, I’ve only been coming to this blog for like 2 weeks and already I’m tired of davedallasfan talking about his uncle and the Vikings moving. Seriously dude, quite annoying.

I was really hoping we’d get Weaver. He was a guy that made sense for our team, I thought. I haven’t seen too much of him playing, but what I have seen has impressed me. More so than our last option: Tahi. I’m getting anxious for the draft wondering what the Vikes will do. As much as I want Cutler, we can’t afford to give up picks to get him now that we have let all these other free agents sign with other teams.

  • Chuck

    Yeah,
There really hasn’t been much sunshine as far as FA  this year, But I’m with you on the draft, Really enjoy it myself, Looking forward to it!!!

  • Ryan

This has been the weakest FA in decades

  • Kenny

Ryan’s right. Why should MN legislators even consider handing out money to a mediocre team who seems to not really care about the direction in which their future is heading? If I had any control I’d tell The Zyg to get F’d. Either go out and spend a little more money, take us to the “promised” land..and win, and THEN we’ll talk. You’ve got to give a little in order to expect to receive a little. This offseason proves that Zyg’s priorities are getting the team the hell outta dodge. If only he had any idea as to how close we really are to being that “championship” caliber team. Oh well. Oh yeah, I hate T-Jack and I absolutely hate chilly!

    Kenny
Do you think Zygi wished he had Mike Tomlin back instead???
    ( I DO!!! )

  • Kenny

Copy that Chuck! No doubt about it.
