Vikings Draft Targets Coming to Light

Scout.com (via Access Vikings) is reporting that the Vikes have scheduled pre-draft visits with wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey and offensive tackle Eben Britton.  As things stand now, Heyward-Bey is projected to be drafted before the Vikes pick at #22, while Britton is thought of as a late first/early-second type guy, meaning to take him at 22 might be a tiny bit of a stretch.  In short, for the Vikings to take either of these guys would likely mean doing a trade, either up or down.  The two players will both be at Winter Park on April 8-9.  Let’s hope Tarvaris Jackson misplaces his cell phone.

my uncle just told me of a news article on nfl.com about a suburb of l.a., walnut, ca. sueing another sub, named industry ca. for approving the building of an 800mil $ stadium 15 miles from downtown la. this construction will start this april!!!!!! 2009 will be done approx april 2010.? who fills this stadium???? as the next team in L.A.? look around the league and see who has stadium deals in place. who has a small TV market. who has the backing of state and local funding. 2 teams come to me, jacksonville and minnesota. another tidbit, apparently ziggy and family have ties to this area in industry ca.????? go look on nfl.com if you think i’m blowing smoke…….

I don’t understand the Vikings interest in Darrius Heyward-Bey.  He seems to be another deep ball threat like Berrian.  I have heard he is not a short possession receiver like TJ Housh that the Vikings need.  Moreover, since rookie WRs usually take 3 years to develop, it makes more sense to me to pick up a vet possession WR, maybe Holt.  Alternatively right tackles like Britton could move right in and fill a big need.  The Vikes need to win now while we have AP going into his prime and some aging linemen on both offense and defense!

Why do we need a WR when we really need CB,SS,FB, & QB! Did Brad Childress give up on Sidney Rice? Childress makes bad play calls & QBs like T-Jack, Bollinger, Holcomb, and Gus makes Rice, Wade, & Berrian looked bad! I think the first round draft pick is gonna be a complete waste cus he doesn’t have a QB… if you know what i mean!

Seriously… if Vikings fail this year i bet you Zigi will also give up our team since there’s no fan support at all! Hello L.A. my beautiful home!

Drafting a QB in the first round has the same problem as WR.  It usually takes years to develop a rookie at these positions.  Vets are needed to win now.  Replacing Ryan Cook at left tackle is the most immediate need that can be met in the draft.

    I meant right tackle.

Pro Football Weekly says of Britton: “A three-year starter who has lined up at right and left tackle, Britton has a skill set better suited for the right side in the pros and may even wind up inside. Does not look pretty but usually gets the job done and possesses day-one starter potential.”  Trade down and get him if you can Vikings.

I seem to recall writing a ridiculously long rant prior to the playoffs that read something to the nature of: You are going to lose this team, Minnesota. And there will be nothing to do about it if you don’t support it.

Can’t wait to hear all the whining and poor me attitudes on the frozen tundra when it happens. Fortunately for the Vikes, Adrian and company will be too busy soaking up the gorgeous whether and gorgeous LA women to care about yall one bit.

How about Trading down and taking Mack ?

I think right tackle has to be the Vikings priority – Britton.
