Harvin Will Workout for Vikings

Percy Harvin has told the South Florida Sun-Sentinel (via Access Vikings) that the Vikings are among the teams he is scheduled to conduct a private workout session for.  The Vikes are believed by many to be leaning receiver with their first round pick, and Harvin is in there with Darrius Heyward-Bey and Hakeem Nicks as a potential target.  Harvin is thought of as a versatile player who could see time as a scatback in the NFL.  Like the aforementioned Mr. Nicks, Harvin scored poorly on the Wonderlic.  Unlike Nicks, Harvin has not allegedly ballooned into a giant tudball since the combine.

This guy would add a whole new versital weapon to our offense no matter who the QB is. Line him up in the slot and you dont just have to worry about Berrian burning you deep you gotta worry about Harvin as well. The free saftey would have to choose which one he wants to double up while leaving the other in one on one coverage unless they wanna double both leaving Rice, Shiance, or Peterson/Taylor without anyone on them in coverage. Not too mention that wonderful wildcat formation that he could be lineup in as well. Peterson/Harvin/Taylor in the wildcat. That could be a scary thing

It would still be nice to be starting a real first string QB this year………sighhhhhhh…..maybe we will get one when we don’t have a good team to go with him…..LOL

The Vikings pursuit of a WR seems as ignorant as QB.   They likely need a WR, preferably a possession WR , that can have an immediate impact, playing opposite the field-stretching Berrian.  Typically it takes 3 years to develop a WR out of the draft, especially a route running posession WR.  Moreover, the team is pursuing the lowest scorers among the top 5 WRs on the Wonderlic - Darrius Heyward-Bey 14, Percy Harvin 12 and Hakeem Nicks 11.  The others are Jeremy Maclin 25, and Micheal Crabtree 15 – while 18 is considered acceptable for a WR.  Havin’s low score is considered the biggest problem because he has the most to learn based on his offense at Florida.

Wonderlic, Wonderdick, seriously who cares about the wonderlic scores, can the guy flat out play football , check mark yes, thats all that matters

You should read Charlie Walters this morning – it makes more sense. The Vikings may trade their No. 22 pick for more picks to fill both offensive tackle and a possession wide receiver later in the first round. They want offensive tackle Eben Britton or wide receivers Hakeem Nicks or Kenny Britt. Offensive tackle Philip Loadholt is expected to be a second-round pick. Brian Robiskie of Ohio State probably would be available in the second round as a nice possession receiver to complement Berrian. The Vikings’ starting QB will be Rosenfels. Vikings are unable to trade for Cutler because the Jets, Bucs and Bears have higher first-round picks to offer, and Cutler’s agent seeks $20 million guaranteed money.  Cutler, who appears a cinch to be traded, probably would cost the Vikings their No. 22 pick, Rosenfels and Greenway.  Walters thinks it would be worth it.

I think the # 22, Rosenfels and Greenway are worth it as well. The only thing id hate too see go is Greenway. But YES thats worth Cutler, pull the trigger and get it done

  • jeege

Greenway is poised to elevate his game to a whole new level this year. (Based on the way he finished the season) He’s one of those guys that makes everyone around them even better and frees them up to make plays as well because he flies around so much and takes on blockers.

Honestly…I don’t want to lose Greenway for Cutler. I’m not sure that would be worth it at all.

  • Mike

Personally, I like Favre at QB for one year, Britton at offensive tackle as the first draft pick and whoever is available for the second draft pick with the highest Wonderlic score between Nicks, Britt and Robiskie, assuming the Vikes can’t find a decent vet possession WR without injury problems (Holt?).

i remember a few years back when the vikes said we are a RB away from being a champion. all we need is the workhorse back. well, jimmy johnson had one. his name was hershel. he just came off a 1500 yrd season and 15 tds….. the vikes gave the farm to get him and then jerry burns did’nt know how to use him. tom landry said that he would never trade his #1 workhorse back away, because that was what he intended on rebuilding the cowboys around, he never got the chance…… jimmy took over and wanted draft picks. “another way to build a champion”. don’t give too many of those picks away even if cutler does seem like the next coming. walker would have been fine if burns could have figured it out. thats what always makes that trade look bad…..JERRY BURNS……i suspect that cutler will be ok too, just at what price?

AND IS CHILDRESS ANOTHER JERRY BURNS?????

  • Ryan

    No, Childress is a god.

  • Mike

The god of the backup QB.

  • http://landryhat davedallasfan

hahahaha well i’m still ticked at ole jerry burns. he did’nt do so hot when he was at iowa univercity either. and i never could figure the hiring of childress by the vikes. he could’nt do anything with the talent he had in philly with mcnabb. he was always touted as a qb guru and yes he got them to the championship games a few times, but could’nt get them over the hump. and did’nt andy reid still call all the O-plays???? so really what did chilly do to get a job like that????

  • Ryan

I really hope the Vikings trade up to obtain Crabtree and all of the sudden Sage has a break out year, that will show everybody.

  • Mike

Ryan, if Sage has a breakout year, Chilly will really become the god of the backup QB.  But if he fails he will be boooed out of town as yet another disgraced ex-coach.

  • Mike

An oddsmaker disagrees with Pioneer Press Charlie Walters. The online oddsmaker Bodoglife has made the Broncos 5-to-9 favorites to retain Cutler. The Jets are 7-to-2, the Lions at 4-to-1 and the Bucs at 6-to-1.  I think the new info about McDaniels not liking Cutler’s drinking means the Jets get him and the Vikings get Favre.

  • Chuck

I know we won’t probably get Cutler, So the next best thing would be the Jets getting them, And as Mike quoted, Favre getting the chance to come to Minnesota!!! Have a feeling there will be a couple trades this year in the draft, Only because of a weak F.A.   Boy, The draft can’t come fast enough for me, Sure you guys feel the same way…
