Vikes Will Go Secondary Twice in First 3 Rounds, Says New Yahoo! Mock

A new highly ambitious three-round mock draft on Yahoo! Sports has the Vikings landing OT Eben Britton in the first round.  It seems to me, just based on what I’ve read, that taking Britton #22 overall would be a small stretch, but if that’s the guy the Vikes want and they don’t want to mess with trading down, then I have no problem with them taking him there.  Right tackle is by far the most glaring hole on this team and if you can get yourself a well-thought-of young guy who might be starting there for the next 7 years, go for it.

After Britton, the Yahoo! people have the Vikings taking cornerback D.J. Moore of Vanderbilt, and then in the third round, safety Darcel McBath of Texas Tech.  The Moore kid, says Yahoo!, dropped some in value after posting slow 40 times.  Yes, just what the Vikings need – another slow defensive back.  Of the McBath kid, the article says, “A well-built safety with a nose for the ball.”  Uh…okay, whatever.  My own gut tells me taking a guy off a defense that gave up about 100 points per game is probably not the soundest bet, but then I confess I know nothing about this specific player.  Frankly, the only thing more absurd than a mock draft is a multi-round mock draft.  But people enjoy speculating so, there it is.

I agree the Vikings should fill their biggest need in the first round by picking OT Eben Britten.  I also agree it would be better if the Vikings filled their second biggest need at possession WR with a vet obtained through free agency or a trade.  They need a vet that can make an immediate impact in case Sidney Rice continues slow development or proves injury prone.  Then the Vikings would not need to draft a WR, which would likely take years to develop, and could use their  second and third rounds for a cornerback and safety.  But I haven’t heard anything about the Vikings trying to pursue a vet WR.  Moreover, Bobby Engram signed with KC!

Cutler to be traded on Yahoo Sports

Peter King says the Bucs and Jets are the frontrunners for Cutler but said Cleveland, Minnesota, San Francisco and possibly Carolina are also interested.  I hope either the Vikings or Jets get him (if the Jets get him the Vikings get Favre).

    I hope so too.
