7 Days of Draftsmas: Ravens Want to Trade Ahead of Vikings

The Baltimore Ravens hope to score a wide receiver in Saturday’s draft, and knowing as they do that the Vikings may also go receiver at #22, the team is reportedly looking to trade up at least to #21.  Don’t hyperventilate though if you’re a Percy Harvin fan:  the Ravens apparently have their eyes on North Carolina’s Hakeem Nicks, and not the Florida guy.  Were I the Ravens, I wouldn’t worry about the Vikes snatching Nicks, even though, frankly, Nicks is closer to the type of receiver the team really needs.

Sounds like disinformation.  The Ravens need a deep threat but they have been mentioned as the frontrunner for possession WR Boldin and now they seek to select Nicks (“Boldin-light”)?  The Vikings have a deep threat with Berrian and need a possession WR like Boldin or Nicks to backup the often injured Rice and they go for a playmaker like Harvin?  Although I wouldn’t mind replacing Bobby Wade in the slot instead.

On the other hand, maybe Vikings fans should hyperventilate.  Perhaps the Ravens think the Raiders, Jets or someone else could get Harvin before 20, the Eagles trade a 2 for Boldin and trade their round 1 at 21 to the Ravens, who get Nicks.  Moreover, the Ravens, may think the the Vikes really want a possession WR like Nicks, which like you say is closer to the type of receiver the team really needs.   The problem with the theory is the Ravens shouldn’t get Nicks but need a deep threat like Heyward-Bey, who the Giants seek to get by moving up ahead of the Ravens.  Could all be disinformation.
