7 Days of Draftsmas: Vikings Take Loadholt in Second Round

It was generally agreed that the two biggest needs for the Vikes in this draft were offensive tackle and wide receiver.  They took care of the receiver part in the first round, selecting Percy Harvin of Florida, and in the second round they addressed the tackle hole by taking massive Oklahoma lineman Phil Loadholt.  Neither player is exactly what you would call a sure thing:  Harvin has well-documented character issues, while Loadholt is considered something of a project.  However, there is no denying that each man possesses the physical tools needed to make it in the NFL.  It will now be up to Brad Childress to mold them and shape them and refine them, and fit them into the big football jigsaw puzzle that is our team.

This is freaking awesome. This was exactly the scenario that i wanted to happen for our draft. I wanted Harvin with our first pick and was praying and hoping for Loadholt to fall to us in the 2nd round and it happend. Im very stoked so far for our draft. I believe both Harvin and Loadholt can come in right away and produce. Mike we got Loadholt without having to move up. Im sure your excited with the way the first 2 rounds panned out. Hopefully tomorrow we can add some value picks. 3rd round hopefully we can somehow squeeze out a good CB or maybe something that will add help defensive wise

The draft went well.  The Vikings only needed some more depth at WR, so they could take a chance with the biggest risk-reward player in the draft.  Then, they got lucky to get their biggest need at tackle with the player they wanted because there wasn’t a big run on tackles like last year.

But my favorite part of the draft was when the Jets moved up to get Sanchez.  Brett Farve can now come back anytime he wants and he will be released.  QB Favre, RB Peterson, WR Berrian, Rice and Harvin, TE Shanko, two 6’8″ 333 pound bookend tackles with Hutch, Sullivan and Herrara in between.  SUPER BOWL
