Favre "Keeping His Options Open"

The New York Daily News is not fooled by Brett Favre.  They think it means something that Favre asked for his release from the Jets after the drafting of Mark Sanchez, namely, that Favre was still contemplating a return to the team in the event they hadn’t resolved their quarterback situation by camp.  Indeed, a source close to Favre is quoted as saying the quarterback “wants to keep his options open.”  In other words, the drafting of Sanchez satisfied Favre that he was no longer needed by Mike Tannenbaum, a man he claims loyalty to, making him feel more comfortable about pressing for his release.  He may now take all the time he wants in pondering a return with another team (that wears purple, plays in a dome and has chump quarterbacks).

Danzinski, I want to make 3 points:

1  You forgot to say Favre also wants to win a super bowl, play with the NFL’s best running back and beat up on Ted Thompson twice this year, and not necessarily in that order.

2  You say “He may now take all the time he wants in pondering a return with another team”???  My bet he was on the phone to Bevell the minute he was released and will announce his un-retirement as soon as Chilly makes him feel wanted.  Chilly better not drop the ball on this one.

3  I’m surprised you haven’t proposed a Favre-Mangini conspiracy.  Favre has been texting Mangini who did him a favor by trading the fifth pick to the Jets so they could get Sanchez and release Favre.
