Jets Release Brett Favre, Setting Stage for Vikings Speculation

This is going to make some people very happy and others very exasperated (via the Newark Star-Ledger):

Amid chatter that Brett Favre is contemplating coming out of retirement yet again, the Jets announced Tuesday evening that they have released the former Green Bay Packers great from the reserve/retirement list.

The move means that Favre is now free to sign with any team, if he wishes and the Jets wouldn’t be owed any compensation because they no longer have his rights.

Favre’s release from the Jets could pave the way for him to come back with the Vikings, the team he originally wanted to play for following his bitter divorce with Green Bay.

Bus (Cook) and Mike (Tannenbaum) have been talking about this for a while,” said Favre in a statement. “Nothing has changed. At this time, I am retired and have no intention of returning to football.”

The Jets needed the cap relief, especially after trading way up to draft Mark Sanchez, so this was sort of a foregone conclusion.  Now the Favre-to-Vikings watch may commence.  Sigh.

Does this still allow my airway to get air while I sleep?

favre blows we don't want him

Mike, if Bret Favre  decides to give it a go one more time , and as a Vikings QB, it does give us fans more hope for a long-awaited Super Bowl win. I give you credit, Mike, you've predicted that it may happen all along, i just hope that if it does happen, that Favre's injured arm is repaired 100 percent. Also, Could you imagine if Favre did lead us to a Super Bowl win? It would be unbelievable!

Even if Favre does stay retired, you know Ted Thompson is sweating bullets today since Favre said "at this time".....If nothing else Favre is poking him with a stick. Sweet....

I can't wait until October 5 when I go to the Green Bay game.

Oh Baby Oh, its gonna happen. Mike i know u gotta be loving this

Packer Report has article Retired and released, Favre causes a headache.  They say "Brett Favre says he has no intention of playing again, yet he asked for and was granted his release on Tuesday night. What else could this mean other than Favre wanting to play for Minnesota out of his hatred for Ted Thompson? Oy ... give publisher Bill Huber a case of aspirin."

Step 1 : Release smoke screen (Farve Annouces retirement)

Step 2 : Play Dead (pretend like your not coming back)
Step 3 : Prepare for war (quietly  start conditioning)
Step 4 : Attack! (Oct 5th. Monday night against Green Bay)

Even though I enjoy the chatter I do think its a stretch.  However, Farve did give himself an out by saying "At this Time....,"  He could have said, "I'm not unretiring and that will not change."

Bears are worried that Cutler could be trumped by Vikings Favre:

Green Bay Packers Ted Thompson's version:
Step 1  Insert posion pill                  FAILED
Step 2  Beg him to stay retired
Step 3  Offer bribe not to sign with Vikings
Step 4  Lynched by Packer fans

Step 1. Jets release Favre CHECK
Step 2. Favre unretires
Step 3. Favre signs with my beautiful Vikings
Step 4. We win a Super Bowl
