7 Days of Draftsmas: Britton Lasts Till 39 Overall

AUTHOR: | IN: Draft, Vikings | COMMENTS: None Yet

The guy a lot of us thought the Vikings would draft #22, Eben Britton, ended up falling out of the first round entirely, and being taken by Jacksonville at #39 overall.  Have no idea if this had anything to do with his unimpressive arm-length.  The Vikes, you have to figure, will be taking an offensive tackle somewhere in the next couple of rounds.  Maybe Phil Loadholt, maybe not.

7 Days of Draftsmas: Vikings Take Percy Harvin With #22 Pick

AUTHOR: | IN: Breaking News, Draft, Vikings | COMMENTS: 3 Comments

Whatever Percy Harvin said to Brad Childress during their little parlay late this week obviously impressed the Vikings coach, or at least put to rest any concerns he may have had about Harvin’s character; or maybe the Vikings just liked Harvin so much that they couldn’t resist taking him regardless.  Whatever the case, Percy Harvin has now been drafted by the Vikings, baggage and all.  He seems a slightly odd fit for an offense that isn’t exactly what you’d call up-tempo, but maybe Chilly hopes that, with Harvin’s talent in the fold, that offense can now be re-styled.  There is [...]

7 Days of Draftsmas: Crabtree Dream Goes Up in Smoke

AUTHOR: | IN: Draft, Vikings | COMMENTS: 3 Comments

So I’m thinking to myself, “Okay, Al Davis just pulled his yearly boner and drafted Darrius Heyward-Bey.  So, if the Niners don’t want Michael Crabtree, could he actually fall far enough for the Vikings to have a shot at trading up for him?  I mean, if you’re willing to take a chance on a guy like Percy Harvin, which we believe the Vikings are, why wouldn’t you be willing to take the same chance on Crabtree, a guy with a known diva attitude but oodles more NFL-ready skills than Harvin?  Could happen…” No.  But, it was a nice dream, for [...]

7 Days of Draftsmas: Does Jets/Browns Trade Open Door for Freeman to Land With Vikes?

AUTHOR: | IN: Draft, Rumors, Vikings | COMMENTS: None Yet

The NFL Draft is at last underway.  The big excitement so far has been a trade that moved the Jets all the way up to #5 where they selected Mark Sanchez, QB out of USC.  Prior to this, the Jets were believed to like Josh Freeman with their original #17 pick, but obviously, they will no longer be taking him.  This removes at least one team ahead of the Vikings that were believed to like Freeman, the other big one being the Buccaneers.  So, does Josh Freeman now end up landing at #22 for the Vikes?

7 Days of Draftsmas: Freeman Rumors Picking Up Steam

AUTHOR: | IN: Draft, Rumors, Vikings | COMMENTS: None Yet

Perhaps I was too quick to dismiss The Goose’s mock draft where he gave the Vikings Josh Freeman at #22?  Possibly, if one gives credence to what Paul Allen, the voice of the Vikings, just posted on Rube Chat: feeling it comes down to trading back, harvin, freeman, butler. very much in the dark as of now. during draft show with bercich i’ll have a much better feel as the teens start to fall, and if josh freeman is at 22 as i mentioned yesterday no surprise if they select him. Butler is cornerback Darius Butler who I forgot to [...]

7 Days of Draftsmas: Rick Gosselin Shakes it Up

AUTHOR: | IN: Draft, Rumors, Vikings | COMMENTS: 5 Comments

Rick Gosselin, aka The Goose, aka the Mock Drafter All the Mock Drafters Want to Be, has prognosticated via his final mock of the year that the Vikings will pull a shocker and use their #22 pick on Josh Freeman, quarterback out of Kansas State.  All due respect to Mr. Gosselin and his gigantic mock drafting reputation…but that is not going to happen.  Percy Harvin will swear off pot before Josh Freeman is a Viking.  Al Davis will admit he’s a drooling old fool before we see Freeman lining up under center for the Purple.  By the way, Gosselin thinks [...]

7 Days of Draftsmas: Final SI Mocks

AUTHOR: | IN: Draft, Rumors, Vikings | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

Somewhat old news, but still worthy of a mention:  in their final mocks, SI.com writers Peter King and Don Banks disagreed about whom the Vikings will take with their #22 overall pick.  King put down his sugar doughnut long enough to pick center Alex Mack – there’s a novel idea – while Banks went with the old reliable Eben Britton.  King and Banks at least seem to realize that offensive line is the most pressing need for this team.  Whether the brain trust will acknowledge this by their pick, only time will tell.  It’s worth noting that King thinks the [...]

7 Days of Draftsmas: Jets Not Interested in Harvin

AUTHOR: | IN: Draft, Rumors, Vikings | COMMENTS: None Yet

Rich Cimini in the New York Daily News: I think I may have jumped the gun a bit on WR Percy Harvin. Now, from what I’m hearing, I don’t think he’d be the pick at 17. Too much baggage. Too much baggage for the Jets maybe, but not for Brad Childress and the Vikings.  They specialize in rehabbing substance abusers with bad attitudes.  Well, except for Dwight Smith.

7 Days of Draftsmas: Rehashing 2003

AUTHOR: | IN: Draft, Vikings | COMMENTS: 4 Comments

The most memorable moment in recent Vikings draft history, outside of Adrian Peterson‘s selection a couple of years ago, was undoubtedly the infamous 2003 skipped pick episode.  Everyone still gives the Vikings grief over that gaffe, which saw the team failing to use its #7 pick in timely fashion, allowing two teams to pick ahead of them before they themselves selected Kevin Williams. All these years later, there is still debate over what actually happened:  some believe the Vikings skipped the pick deliberately so they could take Williams at a lower spot without having to trade down, while others think [...]
