The keen-eyed and observant among you may have noticed something curious about the announcement of the Vikings 2nd round draft pick this year: it was made by some dude who was not the normal dude who performs such duties. Well that dude was, in fact, Onyx Herrera, a Vikings fan from Hawaii who won a contest sponsored by Monster.com, and is now the official NFL Director of Fandemonium. And that is not just a ceremonial position: it is in fact packed with pressure, a pressure Onyx handled beautifully in front of millions of TV viewers, not to mention all those slobbering Neanderthal Jets fans. In case you missed it, here’s a video clip of Onyx’s really quite impressive appearance at the draft, announcing Phil Loadholt. Big ups to Onyx, going with the Jimmy Kleinsasser jersey. That’s how you know he’s a real Vikings fan.
Head over to nfl.monster.com to see some videos of Onyx and the other Director of Fandemonium contestants getting run through the ringer Apprentice-style. Michael Strahan is featured in the videos…stay tuned to The Viking Age for more concerning Mr. Strahan. A hint: it involves a signed football.
