Dog Days
We appear to have officially entered the dog days of the off-season – a dead time between the draft and the beginning of minicamp where there’s really nothing substantive to talk about. Oh, but ha ha – we’ve had the Brett Favre saga going on for the last couple of weeks; but now that appears to have dried up too, which only makes the dogginess seem doggier. That’s okay – I was getting bored with the whole thing. Not with the traffic – that’s been great – but the waiting around for tidbits of news to make something out of. [...]
Chris Mortensen just put this up on Twitter: Favre has consulted orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews, regarding his options on biceps/shoulders…should be up soon on espn.com. That, to me, is the nearest thing we’re going to get to a confirmation that Favre indeed wants to return. You don’t go to Dr. James Andrews if you’re only going to be riding on your lawn mower, and occasionally heading down to the high school practice field to throw some balls around with the boys. Now we wait to see what Favre finds out. It’s previously been reported that, if Favre needs only [...]
Williams Wall Case Remains Unresolved
Judge Paul Magnuson (no relation to the world’s strongest man dude) heard arguments from both sides today in the on-going Williams Wall banned substance case, and when it was over – shocker – he decided not to make a decision. So that means…I don’t know what it means, as I am not a great legal mind. The only thing that confuses me more than this stuff is medical things, e.g., whether an X-ray is useful in determining the severity of a torn biceps tendon injury. Oh, and money. And physics. Okay, pretty much everything confuses me, which is why I [...]
Strahan Football Winner
GG Eden was the winner of the Michael Strahan football (just in case any of you remained in suspense about that). Thanks to everyone who entered. There were so many of you, I almost had to get a bigger hat to hold the drawing. By the way, just for future reference: in these random drawings, trying to kiss my ass won’t help. They’re called “random drawings” for a reason.
Jared Allen took a break from killing varmints to chat with Jim Rome on his ESPN show. Topics touched upon: Brett Favre, Jared’s support of the USO, murdering coyotes with a blow-gun, how Jared finally realized he needed to grow up and stop drinking. Dear Jim: Everyone can tell you’re faking it when you bust a gut over stuff like a dead coyote on a dude’s head. So stop.
Oak Grove Quarterback Talks Favre With Stuart Scott
Brett Favre has been seen working out with the Oak Grove High School team…so, ESPN figured, why not have Stuart Scott interview the quarterback from Oak Grove to find out how Brett’s been looking? Yeah, this story is played out. What’s next? An interview with the guy who washes the team’s jock straps?
Chad Greenway Not Feeling Favre…Yet
More news out of the same community outreach event that produced Mark Wilf‘s “confirmation” of the Vikings‘ interest in Favre, this time via Chad Greenway, who isn’t sure what to make of Favre’s alleged interest in joining the team: While he was complimentary of Favre’s credentials and leadership, Greenway was more critical than any of his teammates about the legendary quarterback’s waffling ways. “He’s retired a couple of times, so you wonder where his loyalties lie,” Greenway said Monday, referring to Favre’s retirement from the Green Bay Packers in March 2007, then his un-retirement and eventual trade to the New [...]
An item, missed by everyone until today, from a weekend Jim Souhan piece on Hattiesburg-area reaction to Brett Favre‘s on-going flirtation with unretirement: Favre’s friend J.D. Simpson says only the quality of the Vikings roster has kept Favre’s meandering through the maze of possibilities. “If this had been a year ago, bang, he’d be in Minnesota right now,” Simpson said. “I think this decision is tougher for him than any of them. He really sees Minnesota as a legitimate team that can go all the way. I think in his mind he was retired, but the quality of that team [...]
Someone from the Vikings Finally Talks About Favre
The Vikings as an organization have been utterly silent on whether they are indeed in hot pursuit of Brett Favre as has been reported by every living human being with any sort of media job or blog or a mouth with which to speak. But now that has changed; finally, someone connected with the Vikings has gone on-the-record about Favre. Mark Wilf, Zygi‘s less-high-profile brother, told the Pioneer-Press‘s Sean Jensen the following at a community outreach event: On where things stand with Brett Favre: “Well. Clearly, I’m appreciative of the fact that our fans are very interested, and, like I [...]
Three New Fansided.com Blogs
A trio of brand spanking new Fansided.com sports network blogs to introduce: Rink Royalty, official Fansided.com home of the LA Kings, with Rich Manning in the role of Barry Melrose. Rear Naked Joke…not the official Fansided.com home of Kim Kardashian, but rather a new MMA blog written by Kipp Tribble (I really hope that’s a pen-name). And last but not least, Swarm and Sting, a New Orleans Hornets blog (sorry about that whole getting booted from the playoffs thing), written by Mark Travis. And don’t forget that Fansided.com has a shiny new very attractive homepage.
