Vikings Place Deadline on Favre Decision

AUTHOR: danzinski | IN: Rumors | COMMENTS: 17 Comments

It turns out that the Vikings will not wait forever for Brett Favre to make up his mind about playing.  According to Chris Mortensen and Ed Werder, Brad Childress has told Favre he wants to know this week whether Favre intends joining the Vikings or prefers to remain retired.

And this is exactly the play Chilly should be making.  The Vikings absolutely should not twist in the wind on Favre’s behalf.  They have quarterbacks they can move forward with.  And it is entirely reasonable for Chilly to expect Favre to be there for all of training camp, regardless of Favre’s familiarity with the offense.  I’m gaining respect for Chilly with each passing day, just for the way he’s handling this.  For him to put his foot down and say “now or never” to Favre is a sign that he is on top of the situation and is not going to let any player, even a Hall of Fame legend egomaniac like Favre, push him around.

Whatever you think of the team the Vikings could be with Favre on-board, you can’t be a serious fan if you believe they should just drop their pants and let Favre slap their ass.  They should have Favre on their terms, not his.  He’s the player, they’re the team.  Take it or leave it Brett.

Danzinski makes little sense again.  Chilly also.  This is like saying someone must come to work sick.  Asking someone to commit a week or two after surgery seems stupid to me.  I see no reason not to give him the 4 weeks it takes to start throwing without pain.

  2. jeege says:

I agree with danzinski on this one. Great call by Childress!

  3. Jim says:

Childress never would have imposed this deadline if Favre didn’t have the surgery.  Favre having the surgery puts all the power with Childress for him to make a decision immediately.  just seems a little ridiculous to me.

I wonder what Hall of Fame egomaniacs like the -0- superbowl winning Fran have to say about this.

  4. Mike says:

ESPN Ed Werder is now saying Favre wants 2 more weeks and may pass on the opportunity if Chilly pushes him.  Come on Chilly, don’t blow this now!

  5. Mike says:

Quaterbacks to move forward with? Are you kidding me? Chilly is a moron for imposing a deadline this soon after the surgery.  He just wants Jackson as his QB.  This coach  is wasting a potential superbowl team with a QB who wouldn’t start on most 1A college teams.

  6. Mike says:

The Mike above is a different Mike.

  7. Mike says:

Star Tribune reporters Judd Zulgad and Chip Hoggins doubt Chilly gave Favre any deadline.  They say the rumors are from the Favre camp, probably a ploy by Bus Cook to get more money.

  8. Jim says:

It would be surprising if he went with the surgery without already having the contract situation ironed out.   Doubt its about the money.  The 1 week dead line is probably not entirely accurate, and if it is Childress loses credibility.

  9. Dan says:

Favre now, later we can wait. When he is sure all the better. The Vikings are going to be great. Go Vikings Go   Go Brett Go

  10. Jim says:

Favre’s family booked 25-30 rooms 2 months ago for the Vikings Packers game in GB.

It’s a pretty easy choice here.  Do we want to scare off our one chance at winning the Superbowl? Sage has looked great, he’ll get us to the playoffs. This Favre guy, has the expierence to do what Fran couldn’t, win the Bilichek trophy. The only bad thing about signing Brett, is that after winning it all, we’ll probably be stuck with Childress another year!

  12. pat kirwan, from nfl.com says no. farve does not have deadline of this week. that it would prabably be more like till the start of camp, and see where farve is at with re-hab at that point. sounds like the ole espn don’t know shit, so lets qoute some un-named source again…….v.s………..nflnetwork, hey we got our news from the vikings themselves.   espn is full of shit

  13. Dave says:

Shame on you! have you no self respect?

  14. who, me……i’m just qouting pat kirwan nfl.com…….ask him about his self respect. i’m sure it’s quite high? me, well who the hell really cares anyway. i have no self respect? i could say yes i do, but no-one would believe me anyway.

  15. i called it baby, i nailed it. i read on rtsports that kirwan was pissed about it. he’s tired of espn hearing some tidbits and then trying to to blow it up so they look like the get the first source news, well they don’t and it shows……..please don’t bad mouth me any more viking fans, no offence, i come in peace. i’m just a fan of good football, and love to banter about it.
