Baghdad Bus at it Again
Cutting short the vacation to report on Bus Cook’s latest denial, this one covering the WCCO report that confirmed an earlier PFT report from a source in Afghanistan (how wacky has this whole thing gotten?) claiming Brett Favre is already signed, sealed and delivered, and the Vikings are just waiting for an opportune moment to break the news to the world. From Sean Jensen of the Pioneer-Press:
Brett Favre’s agent denied another report Tuesday evening that the quarterback has agreed to a contract with the Vikings.
Two days after the Web site Pro Football Talk reported that a deal was in place and that the team had approved the production of Favre jerseys, WCCO-TV provided a similar report with a few minor differences, namely that the quarterback’s contract includes “heavy incentives.”
Asked in an e-mail if there was any truth to the WCCO report, agent Bus Cook wrote one word: “Nope.”
Cook did not elaborate.
I know it’s Bus’s job to deny everything until it’s time to confirm it, but don’t you think the guy would get a little sick after awhile of looking like Baghdad Bob? I guess if you pay a guy enough, it takes the sting out of seeming like a buffoon.
Now back to Alaska…

I could give a crap what an agent says about his client. It’s ESPN that has the most to answer for in this whole reporting disaster.
Their coverage has been abysmal at best, straight up lies at worst. Really really terrible journalism.
June 24th, 2009 at 1:26 pmCook talks too much. He should just not respond to inquiries like most rational people would.
June 24th, 2009 at 2:10 pmi will report that my uncle has contacted his “inside source” and has been told that “something big looms on the doorstep” of this upcoming season. my uncle said his source could not reveal the news as a whole, but it will definitely change the outlook of the vikings offensively. you guys do the math. my uncles just told me, “done deal, dat damn farves’ coming to dodge as the new gunslinger.” he’s pumped. he also said , “hey i still got all the love for franny. i take nothin away from him. he’s my alltime favorite viking, but even if you gotta bring in the enemy, you do what you have to to win. farve gives us the best chance, i’ve finally come to that conclusion.” well you’ve heard it from the vikeman…..it’s a done deal.
June 24th, 2009 at 3:48 pmmy uncles inside source, i believe is a buddy of his that works for the vikings in personel or in some type of capacity that has access to team personel movement???? i,ve heard of him talking about this “good buddy” of his that works for the vikes”. he hangs with him when he goes up to minneapolis on business. they’ve gotten together several times in the rochester area with their wives for dinner. he’s got some inside stuff he’s always braggin about, so this is pretty legit? my uncles uncanny when it comes to findin out about viking info, so it just might be on the up? my uncle keeps tellin me he’s comin on here some time to blog with you guys, but says always; ” ain’t got the time for all dat stuff”. his handle is vikeman…..thats the one i gave him. i’ll keep workin on him
June 24th, 2009 at 3:59 pmDave, your uncle isn’t Ed Werder is it?
June 24th, 2009 at 5:30 pmI thought his uncle was Brad Childress.
June 24th, 2009 at 7:45 pmThe Vikings should have fun with Brett Favre, who was just voted #2 character in NFL history:
http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-network-top-ten/09000d5d810a5f17/Top-Ten-Characters-Brett-Favre
June 24th, 2009 at 8:17 pmjim, hell no. he says he hates that bitch ed werder. and mike, he thinks he could do a better job than chilly’s doin now anyway. you guys would love him cause your big viking fans too. i just laugh like hell cause he brings out the best of what a classic/antique football fan is all about. he’s hilarious in his too small fram tarkenton jersy. he’s got a viking horn he uses at the games. he says i always get a “little horney” when i get in that dome. i keep an eye on him. he gets great photo shots of him and good looking women and cheerleaders at every game. i can’t figure it out, but they love him. i’m tryin to talk him into bloggin. no luck yet, he can’t even send an e-mail. no use for the shit, he says. i got a cell phone now, thats enough tech for me. he still says, “hate that bastard farve. hate him. but by damn, we gotta get his ass in here if were gonna win it. damn it just don’t seem right.” he’s smilin when he says that…….he likes mike, says he’s the most persistant viking fan he’s ever ran across. good stuff that mike…….good stuff……hahahahha
June 24th, 2009 at 10:05 pmBig news gentlemen. The N.F.L. Network has the top ten ranking for the most mobile QBs of alltime. Top of the list; Sir Francis Ausbury Tarkenton= #1. Mike did you get that one? The VIKEMAN
June 24th, 2009 at 11:25 pmthere it is boys, my uncle the vikeman sends out his first blog on my computor. i changed the name on the heading just for him so he could send his own. took him 10 minutes to type and send it, but he got er done. hey mike no hate bro, he says, just take it easy on franny, ok……we gotta stay tight, man.
June 24th, 2009 at 11:29 pmYes, Fran was mobile. While he played for the Vikings, I enjoyed watching him scramble. But since he starting bashing our hope for a super bowl with Favre, the only mobility of his that admire was when he moved back to Atlanta!
June 25th, 2009 at 8:20 amDave, Nobody is disputing Sir Francis’ mobility or talent while he played in Minnesota or New York, you just have to ask why he would take cheap shots at Favre, especially when he may be our only hope to own a Super Bowl championship, after all these years? I myself thought that the Bud Grant teams of the seventies were our best teams ever, but we still fell short of the ultimate goal. Later, we had our chances with Wade Wilson at QB, only to lose again in the NFC championship game to Washington. How about all those years with Moss and Carter as WR’S, we had the teams to win it all, in fact if we had the right head coach, there is no doubt that we could’ve been dynasty-material? Instead, we fell short to teams of lesser talent like Atlanta, New York and Philadelphia. As a longtime fan, i started to wonder if the Vikes would ever win the Super Bowl in my lifetime, but there’s renewed hope now that Favre is interested, because he is a winner, whether you like him or hate him, you’ve got to ask yourself, How many more years can we waste opportunities with the talent we have in place? I don’t know about the rest of you diehard Vikings fans, but i’m tired of falling short, it’s now or never for the Super Bowl, and with Favre we should’nt settle for anything less than a Super Bowl win. I honestly feel that whether you’re Fran Tarkenton or any other former player or coach, you gotta welcome the chance we have to finally bring home the ring.
June 25th, 2009 at 10:57 amProfootball Talk has a piece where Al Harris, who is busy learning the Packers new 3-4 D, says Favre will never destroy his legacy of what he did in Green Bay. They go on to say the irony is that Favre will be much better equipped to deal with the new Packer D in 2009 than he was a year ago, since the Jets and two of their three division opponents used a 3-4 D.
June 25th, 2009 at 12:32 pmThe Vikings should try to pick up another good 4-3 DE as other teams move to the 3-4.
June 25th, 2009 at 12:33 pmStP Pioneer Press reporter Charley Walters, the opposite of Bus Cook, has the rumor mill stirring again.
He claims Favre came all the way up to Edina Minnesota’s Tria Orthopedics clinic on Monday to have his surgically-repaired shoulder checked out. “If Favre is flying up to Minnesota for medical treatment, he’s signed the contract.”
He also says the Vikings are trying to sign Marvin Harrison to compete with Sidney Rice. Since they only keep 5 WRs that would leave Bernard Berrian, Sidney Rice, Marin Harrison, Percy Harvin and Bobby Wade (Harvin competes with Wade for the third spot in the slot). This rumor makes little sense to me since the Vikings would have to release every one of their young WRs: Jaymar Johnson, Aundrae Allison, Darius Reynaud, Glenn Holt, Nick Moore and Vinny Perretta.
June 25th, 2009 at 1:56 pmI also don’t believe it because how could anyone keep Marvin H and Harvin straight. Favre would constantly be throwing to the wrong WR. HA, HA
June 25th, 2009 at 2:03 pmbernie, i agree with you all out. why did fran speak out the way he did against farve? my uncle the vikeman, explains it to me this way: he says franny has the utmost love and dedication to ziggy and this regime of the vikings as much as he loved his teams in the 70s. vikeman says he can prove it. the fact that fran said anything at all proves he cares. if he did’nt he would have stayed silent and “let it be”. vikeman says this about farve. he said over the past 2-3 years farve has made a mockery of the decision to retire with dignity. he’s mocked the packers to the point of putting them in a no-win situation no matter which way they went with this. they chose to move on from the yearly spring circus and look like fools for bashing and throwing aside the great brett farve. well simply put ,right or wrong, they moved on and sometimes that’s what you gotta do. franny knows that first hand, so he speaks from knowledge of the situation. he did admit that. he does’nt want farve to bring that same circus atmosphere to the vikings when they don’t need it. they need to focus on the talent they have and get on with it, and not be held for hostage by farve. he says the vikings are better then that. so he lashed out at farve threw the media and it apparently worked. also , yes there is a little franny jealousy there, and who can blame franny for feelin that way. this situation with farve could very well work out for the best, or it could very well implode the vikings season. fran’s point is that’s farve’s revenge is not worth risking the 2009 viking football season for??????? my uncle says this is what the basis of the fran tarkenton tirade was all about. he says that everyone like mike and that side of fans have the right to question fran of his remarks, but still should hold fran and his career acomplishment at the utmost in viking lore. not bash him for taking a side even if you don’t agree with him, because there are many that do. vikeman hates farve too, but sees this as the best way to win. he says the experience is un replaceable. the talent could be un-matched. but the risk IS HUGE…… this is the way the vikeman dictated it to me.
June 25th, 2009 at 8:22 pmBernie, I respect your opinion as a Viking Fan. You go way back, and You live quite a distance away. That is admirable in a Fan. My only thoughts are to protect the Legend of Sir Francis. I lived and died through all those failures as well. We bleed together, Brother. Don’t you guys listen to everything dallasdavyboy has to say. I taught him everything He knows, not everything I know. He comes up a little short in the Viking fandom, that’s why he’s all Dallas shit. Dumbass……. anyway He’s my Nephew, (dumb Brothers kid). You Boys go on and post. I read and listen and reply when I see the need. All I can say is GO VIKES, HAIL FRANNY. He is My alltime Vike.
June 25th, 2009 at 8:44 pmDave, Fran’s book had a little to do with it as well. Free publicity, and he knew exactly how to get it. It’s smart actually, I’ll give him credit. Fran is a successful businessman, so I think he knew exactly what he was doing. Too bad he had to choose this avenue to get that attention. Plus from what I understand from his former teammates he was exactly some of the things that he was accusing Favre of being. That being said, I don’t care about it anymore, it’s old news.
June 25th, 2009 at 9:07 pmJim, I agree it is old news now, but you never know when Grumpy Old Fran with scramble back into the picture with his new personal power version of How to Win Friends and Influence People.
June 25th, 2009 at 9:41 pmYou never know when the monster could rear its ugly head.
June 25th, 2009 at 9:52 pmWe may just be in the eye of the tornado.
June 25th, 2009 at 9:54 pmDALLASDAVE and VIKEMAN, I will always respect Tarkenton for his great scrambling ability and playing that many years as he did, how could you not respect him as a fan? I guess you guys are right in a certain sense in that Favre was beating us all those years as the Packers’ QB, it is’nt easy to just accept him as a Viking for some fans, and you’re right, that it is a big gamble as well. Thanks brother Vikeman, all us fans gotta stick together, since i live in Pennsylvania, in my city we have 7 Vikings fans, many Steeler fans, and an assortment of Cleveland, Buffalo and Dallas fans. I’m just tired of the Steeler fans bashing me left and right. The Vikings have had great teams in the past, and we have one now, just without the ring. Hey, i believe we had teams just as good as the Steelers, minus the rings. I think Bud Grant was one of the best coaches ever, but he’ll never get the notoriety like Tom Landry, Jimmy Johnson or Chuck Knoll and Don Shula or Bill Walsh did. He still deserves it, whether or not he won a Super Bowl. I guess i’m just hoping Favre can help this great team finally bury the hatchet, and win it all.
June 25th, 2009 at 9:54 pmLike a snake, Fran could strike at any time with his poisonous toxic venom.
June 25th, 2009 at 9:55 pmYes Bernie, we need Favre to help the Vikings get the Fran monkey off our backs – no more super bowl losses!!!!
June 25th, 2009 at 9:58 pmMike, Mike, Mike, I can’t help but to chuckle at every post you take a shot at Sir Francis. You too are my Viking Brother, so I know that You really do love and respect Franny. I know His comments have not set well with You. I know that the media frenzy Franny has caused maybe self driven, and You resent that because You feel it’s selfpromotion. I do feel that when Favre gets here We will have a SuperBowl shot. We have the team to beat in the N.F.C. and a hell of a shot at the whole thing. This is where we unite. That brings us all together as Viking fans whether we want Favre or not. Maybe Fran will join us when we hoist the damn thing up on the podium. Winning can solve a lot of pain and troubles my Friend. Go VIKES, Mike!
June 25th, 2009 at 11:14 pmI did tell davyboydallaskid, He’s 47, still acts like a damn kid, that it sure the hell won’t be Tony Romeo winning it.
June 25th, 2009 at 11:17 pmlol @ mike hilarious!
June 26th, 2009 at 12:51 amyes vikeman, we can all agree that butterfinger romo won’t be in the picutre. hope he enjoys his billion dollar stadium.
Sorry Dave! (go clones!
)
June 26th, 2009 at 12:54 amDave, is he still dating that fat chick?
June 26th, 2009 at 12:55 amDave’s wife made him dump her.
June 26th, 2009 at 8:39 amHow is everyone doing ? Ive been on a business trip to Nashville and getting back today. Hey Mike whats the new rumor on that Favre has signed and they are going to announce during 4th of july weekend
June 26th, 2009 at 12:22 pmWelcome back All Day 28. Danzinski has been on vacation so while the cat is away the mice play. Favre was seen in Edina Minnesota Monday. It would make sense if they announced on July 4 weekend after Chilly get back to minimize the media circus.
June 26th, 2009 at 1:19 pm@ All Day 28,
The long and short of it is, the contract is almost certainly signed and they are waiting to do a press conference until the national holiday weekend so as not to bring so much attention to it.
I.E. “Here we are. Here’s our new quarterback. You all knew it was going down. We’re excited to have him, blah blah blah. Now lets move on and play some FOOTBALL!!! GO VIKINGS!!! SUPERBOWL BOUND BABY!!”
June 26th, 2009 at 1:21 pmjinx
June 26th, 2009 at 1:23 pmThe Star Tribune’s Judd Zulgad writes today “The important thing to keep in mind is the difference between agreeing to terms and signing a contract. Last word was that Favre still hasn’t decided if his surgically repaired arm will allow him to play and there is no reason for him to sign until he makes the call on whether he can return for a 19th NFL season.”
June 26th, 2009 at 1:24 pm“Profootballtalk.com is catching wind of rumors that free agent Brett Favre has bought a home in Minnesota. Favre was reported to be in Minnesota on Monday, and might’ve been closing his house deal in addition to getting his throwing arm checked out. The home is thought to be located in Eden Prarie — the location of Vikings headquarters.”

June 26th, 2009 at 1:33 pmhahaha boys, good stuff. hey i kinda like jessica with a little extra meat on the bones. those are the kinda of chicks my uncle the vikeman always looks at too. asswipe. talkin trash about me. startin a “family fued”. hey jim i wonder if jerry can talk nestle foods (aka kraft foods conglomorate) into being his stadium sponser? nice touch with the “butterfinger” comment. hahaha. funny. maybe he can persuade micky Ds? call it “mcburger house stadium”?????? hey that does sound good? then he can hire jessica as spokesmodel and keep this all in the family. hey she did look pretty good in dukes of hazard. sounds like “romeo” may be coolin down his jets a little for this up coming season? get down to football business for a change? oh, rumor control from farve central, vikeman’s insider; says that farve is seeking to lease a condo in some gated community in edina???? vikeman has a buddy in the realestate business. the vikeman knows everyone.
June 26th, 2009 at 3:44 pmThe Bears won’t be going after Burress. Brandon Marshall will stay in Denver. If/when the Vikings get Favre, the Bears are non-factors.
June 26th, 2009 at 4:13 pmyou are right, the condo is in eden prarie, vikeman corrects me again
June 26th, 2009 at 4:47 pmLeasing a condo in Eden Prairie? Looks like Favre is retiring from cutting grass? At least for now. Unless further reports come out that contradict that. (according to an anonymous source)
June 26th, 2009 at 5:57 pmVikingsUpdate.com makes case for Vikings improving from good to great team by signing Brett Favre:
http://min.scout.com/2/875434.html
June 27th, 2009 at 12:51 pmRotoworld reports: Adrian Peterson said he would welcome Brett Favre “with open arms” should the Vikings sign the future Hall of Famer. Only Jim Brown and Eric Dickerson have rushed for more yards in their first two seasons than Peterson. It’s scary to think how explosive he will be if a healthy Favre can keep the eighth and ninth defenders out of the box.
June 28th, 2009 at 11:32 amAnother report says now that Brett Favre will become the Vikings QB with Sage as backup, word is starting to leak out what life has been like for AP with T-Jack. Peterson’s dad is asking the Vikings to give his son some help. Nelson Peterson said “Anybody who can keep nine guys out of the box would be greatly appreciated. I don’t care if it’s Tarvaris (Jackson), Sage (Rosenfels), Brett Favre or anybody else.” He may say he doesn’t care who is at quarterback, but he’s also pointing out that defenses haven’t worried about Jackson. Notice he said nine in the box. Against most running teams, a defense may bring the strong safety up to the line to help out. Peterson isn’t exagerating when he says that against the Vikings, teams sometimes brought both the strong safety and the free safety up into run support. Such a defense should leave massive gaps in the secondary for a passing attack, but with Jackson that wasn’t nearly as scary as the thought of Peterson getting free with room to run. That’s where Favre could make his biggest impact. Peterson has rushed for 3,101 yards in his first two seasons against defense that are stacked almost entirely to stop him. If Favre can make opponents respect the passing game, who knows how many yards Peterson could gain.
June 28th, 2009 at 11:34 amA Franophile gave me a great idea. He said Favre’s arm hasn’t been pain free since 2004. I know his bicep tendon tear happened at about that time. That means the injury could have hurt his 2005-2007 seasons. Also he played for poor Green Bay teams from 2005-6. But that also means Favre’s great 2007 season happened even though apparently his arm was hurting, likely aided by playing for a good Green Bay team. Now he has finally got the tear fixed AND will be playing with a good team. I sense an even better season than 2007 coming!
June 28th, 2009 at 3:34 pmTrent Green says his decision to retire was difficult:
“I can completely understand what Brett Favre is going through. I still feel like I can play and if I was in Brett’s shoes, I would play. The Vikings have the potential to be a very good team, on both sides of the ball. He also knows the offensive coordinator and could step in the huddle tomorrow and run the offense.”
The Vikings are a GREAT opportunity for Favre and visa versa.
June 29th, 2009 at 1:26 pmAn editorial last week by Bill Thornley, editor of the Spooner Wisconsin Advocate, said for Favre to play for the Vikings would be “stabbing in the back every loyal Packer fans who supported him for 16 years”…..“Any lasting legacy or good will that Favre might have still had in Wisconsin is gone the moment he puts on that Viking uniform. Many see it as the act of a traitor. Don’t look for #4 to be retired by the Packers or Favre’s name added to the Circle of Honor very soon.”
June 29th, 2009 at 2:01 pmYou gotta love this crap!!! Maybe Brett Favre will become the Vikings Hall of Fame QB!!!
Mike, you’re 100 percent right about this editorial, it is a bunch of crap, with a capital C. Hey Bill Thornley, did you ever hear of Joe Namath? How about Joe Montana? Did it tarnish their legacies when they retired playing on other teams, Namath-LA RAMS and Montana- KANSAS CITY CHIEFS? I don’t think so, it’s just that the Packer fans ran Favre out of town leaning towards a younger QB in Rodgers, now they can’t stand the fact that the Vikings could conceivably win it all with Brett Favre in a purple #4 jersey, while they settle for third place in the division. GO VIKINGS ALL THE WAY!!!!
June 29th, 2009 at 9:00 pmFoxSports.com is rating the Vikings current QBs #30 just ahead of the #31 Sean Hill 49ers and the #32 Cutler-less Broncos. “Sage Rosenfels or Tarvaris Jackson would be hoped simply not to screw it up as a starter.” They add “it’s clear why coach Brad Childress is entertaining Brett Favre — even at his age and physical condition. You can argue that Favre’s been wrong in how he’s handled all of his retirement drama the past few years, but not the reason for his current summer fling — the Vikings are one QB from a Super Bowl run.”
