Vikings Place Deadline on Favre Decision
It turns out that the Vikings will not wait forever for Brett Favre to make up his mind about playing. According to Chris Mortensen and Ed Werder, Brad Childress has told Favre he wants to know this week whether Favre intends joining the Vikings or prefers to remain retired. And this is exactly the play Chilly should be making. The Vikings absolutely should not twist in the wind on Favre’s behalf. They have quarterbacks they can move forward with. And it is entirely reasonable for Chilly to expect Favre to be there for all of training camp, regardless of Favre’s [...]
There are many I’m sure who view the news of Brett Favre having arthroscopic surgery on his throwing arm as a sign that he will inevitably come to play for the Minnesota Vikings, but these Favreophiles need to cool their jets, at least for a little while longer. As Chris Mortensen points out in his report on ESPN.com, Favre has been testing his shoulder since having the surgery last month, and still doesn’t think it’s well enough for him to take the plunge. Favre was clearly burned by the way his season ended in 2008, and his pride is such [...]
Brad Childress was with the Vikings building a playground at an elementary school in Brooklyn Park the other day when an intrepid young aspiring journalist approached the coach and began firing off questions about Brett Favre. Chilly, knowing he couldn’t merely brush off the young lad, replied that Favre was retired. The relentless pubescent journo came right back at the Chilly however, saying, “I read the newspaper, and it says he’s coming back.” Chilly, backed into a corner – and surrounded by real reporters eager to watch him stick his foot in it – replied to the kid: Really? You [...]
Antoine Winfield Tries to Explain His Absence
Antoine Winfield has elected not to participate in any of this week’s OTAs, which would not be a big deal except that he also skipped mandatory minicamp, using a funeral as an excuse, and all because he is unhappy about still not having a contract extension worked out with the team. On Thursday, Winfield finally made a verbal statement to go with the rather large non-verbal statement he already made by blowing off the mandatory camp and OTAs. “I want all to know that I’m not at OTA’s because I don’t want to be there,” Winfield said. “I do want [...]

Bears Players Lobbying for Plaxico Burress
Certain members of the Chicago Bears have been openly lobbying for the team to sign Plaxico Burress, the troubled former Giants wide receiver, whose 2008 season ended in the time it took him to shoot himself in the leg while illegally packing a gun at a club (an incident that could still end up landing him in jail). “I feel pretty comfortable with what we have here right now,” said Viking-killer Devin Hester. ”If we added Plaxico Burress, that’s only going to build confidence even more. Why wouldn’t he help us?” Well Devin, for example, if he went and blew [...]
Adrian Peterson Nearly Duped into Gaining Weight
Remember that plan Adrian Peterson had to make himself more powerful and durable by gaining 10 pounds? The one Brad Childress basically shot down as foolish as soon as he heard about it? Well, now we know where Adrian got the idea from, and let’s just say, the guys who planted it in his impressionable young head did not have his best interests at heart. Jim Corbett of USA Today has the scoop: Adrian Peterson was seeking advice from several respected elders about how to take his dazzling game to the next level only to unwittingly fall prey to a [...]
Someone finally got around to asking loud-mouth former Viking Cris Carter‘s opinion on the Fran Tarkenton flap. You’d expect Carter, whose mouth has gotten him in trouble more than once in his life, to have at least a little sympathy for Fran, who has been getting hammered by Viking fans who think he should shut his mouth about Brett Favre. But Cris doesn’t seem all that sorry for Fran: Well for one, as an athlete, there are other athletes out there I wouldn’t say I have the best relationship with based on maybe the commentary you offered on them. No [...]
10 Greatest Brett Favre Choke-Jobs
Steeler Tribute has done us all the inestimable service of compiling a list of Brett Favre‘s 10 greatest choke-jobs. #4 is one Vikings fans (and Joe Buck) will all remember: 2004 NFC Wild Card Playoffs vs Vikings In the 76-year history of post-season play in the NFL, no playoff team has ever produced a worse record over their final 10 games than the 2004 Minnesota Vikings. After starting the season 5-1, they win only three more times to stumble into the post-season with an 8-8 record. The Packers have already beaten them twice, and now they have the seemingly easy [...]
Brad Childress or Ian Poulter?
Brad Childress lightened things up at minicamp over the weekend by donning a spiky-hair-and-visor combo. As he explains in the video, he first wore the disguise at the Senior Bowl, complete with beard, and fooled several acquaintances into thinking he was someone else. They would’ve figured out it was him as soon as he started talking though. That dry monotone of Chilly’s is unmistakable. The hair-visor actually reminds me of golfer Ian Poulter. All along we thought Chilly never made that trip to Mississippi to meet with Brett Favre, but now I’m not so sure. It’s possible he undertook the [...]
