ESPN the Magazine Doesn't Think Much of the Vikings

AUTHOR: | IN: Vikings | COMMENTS: 47 Comments |

The Vikings seldom fare well in rankings of best sports franchises, and such is the case again with this ESPN the Magazine survey (via Access Vikings) that places the Vikes 89th out of the 122 major sports organizations (hockey is considered a “major sport” for the purposes of this piece).

The rankings are based on numerous factors including “Affordability,” “Coaching,” “Fan Relations,” “Players” and “Stadium Experience.”  Predictably, the Purple do not fare well in stadium experience, ranking 117th; nor does ESPN think much of the coaching staff, ranking it 111th.  The Vikes are seen as having plenty of talent though, ranking 54th in players, and they also do well in a category called “Bang for the Buck”
(which I’m assuming isn’t dirty, even though it sort of sounds like it), placing 46th.

And what does all this mean?  The Vikings have a crap stadium, crap coaches and pretty good players.  Thanks ESPN the Magazine for offering up these marvelous insights.

Good video downplays support for T-Jack among Vikings players:

http://www.twincities.com/sports/ci_12769844

That Philly guy was actually not much bigger than T-Jack, same height, only about 8 pounds heavier.  I think that was why they had him take MMA.  No one can kick sand in his face now.  Too bad he still can't hit the broad side of a barn.

No he did not Jim, that was actually quite entertaining, I forgot about how he got decleated and tossed up in the air like a ragdoll after the pick. Brett would have known better then to go after trying to save your ass and making a tackle, he simply would just get them back on the next posession

allday28, did he earn your pity when he was thrown down at the end of the play!!!!! :D

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s4UvKrdafqY&fea...

He didnt earn my pity when that ball was placed directly in asante samuel's numbers and ran back for a touchdown in the playoff's last year

because T-Jack has earned our pity.

Mike why do you even respond to him as T-jack, he has not even earned the right for us to call him T-jack, so from now on it and will probably always be T-joke

T-Jack has no confidence.  I was just reminded he was looking over his shoulder for Favre on ESPN last year throughout July and into early August.  His response to the threat - two embarrassing losses to the Packers and Colts.  He should have been afraid of Frerotte.  Makes you wonder what has T-Jack been doing this year - watching ESPN this year?  lobbying Edwards and Greenway?  My preferred order Favre, Sage, Booty, T-Jack.

Chad F***ing Greenway might be the other.

Dr. Andrews said he wasn't supposed to say anything but noted that Favre talked extensively about his feelings on "Joe Buck Live."  Meanwhile, Pro Football Talk reported that some members of the Vikings "aren't thrilled with the idea" of a new quarterback, whether it's Sage Rosenfels or Favre.  Citing an NFL source, PFT said that "some Vikings believe that Tarvaris Jackson should be the starter, based on Jackson's performance during offseason workouts."  Shut up Edwards.

not if the patient leaks info this way

haha doesn't that violate doctor/patient confidentiality?

Dr. James Andrews told the Clarion Ledger paper that Brett Favre wants to play this season and he wants to do it with the Vikings. "He wants to end his career on a high note. He's a tough guy, a great guy. He just wants to make sure his shoulder and arm are healthy enough."  Rotowire says “the signs keep pointing to a Favre return, and at this point it seems almost like a certainty.”

Steve McNair you will be missed greatly, always enjoyed watching you play you were a true warrior of the game please R.I.P, you are in a better place. I will always admire you for restructuring your contract to allow the titans to get better talent and never grip about it. Great guy and wonderful player

Happy 4 too everyone. We might be in for a huge bang today, its the 4th which if Favre's #, so hey imma make my own damn rumor and say that later on today they are going to announce the signing of him Today. Let the fireworks begin

Another example of how ESPN is full of it.

ESPN headline: Favre at home in Minny.

Once you click on the link it says: Favre Unwanted?

But you have to be a member of ESPN insider to get access.  I can't stand ESPN.

NFL.com's lead video talks about what Favre will do for Peterson and add the stout defense makes a "Purple Powerhouse."

Happy Favreth of July Everyone!

lol, Fran.  I get it now....

you guys might all be kidding everyone, but i ain't? not about vern and greg gange. what the hell is this about vern????? i did'nt hear this latest news. i knew vern was in bad shape in an alshiemers unit, but this i did'nt know. please tell me more????? my wife is a nurse and wrks in an alshiemers unit and tells me some horror stories.

Jim, I was kidding.  Fran Tarkenton said Favre was despicable.

July 12 is another guess from the media.  It could be anytime until now until July 31.

Why would he wait until the 12th Mike?!?!?!  I was hoping early next week, but I guess the 12th isn't too far away....

I was assuming your last name was Tarkenton, and it was kind of a joke!  Anyway, have a great 4th!

On NFL Live, they said Favre is a top 5 QB if he can play like he did before the last 5 games of last year.   They also said the Vikings are so good Favre won't have to do much.

The Star Tribune’s Judd Zulgad says the evidence that Brett Favre will end his retirement to play for the Vikings in 2009 is overwhelming. In fact, the only surprise will be if the quarterback decides his surgically repaired right biceps tendon has not healed sufficiently. They received a tip last night about Favre settling on a condominium in Edina, but that doesn’t appear to be a done deal.  Favre is going to make a decision before the Vikings open training camp practices on July 31. The latest bit of speculation from Tom Curran at PFT is that the Favre announcement could come the week of July 12.

Wow Fran, I'm so honored to be in the presence of greatness a bitter old man!

Sounds like you haven't heard Vern killed another man in a nursing home because of Alzheiemers disease.

DON'T WORRY FRANNY, I'LL STAY AWAY FROM VERN. I LOVE THE MAN. HE'S MY GRAMPA'S ALLTIME FAVORITE WRESTLER. GRAMPS HAD BREAKFAST WITH HIM ONE TIME, SAID VERN'S A "GOOD MAN. IF HE WAS'NT WRESTLIN, HE'D BE A HELL OF A GOOD FARMER." I WATCHED VERN AND GREG WRESTLE MANY TIMES. WAS'NT GREG A STAR AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MINN ON THEIR WRESTLING TEAM?.....GO...A.W.A.............

Greg Gagne.  Stay away from Vern!

hey you guys know this ganja man? is this greg ganja, vern's boy, you know the wrestler???????

I don't know.  I used to like and respect Fran until he got in the way of a possible Super Bowl.  Now I hate him and I don't know if that will change or not with time.

Mike,  As i wrote in my e-mail a couple days ago, Myers confirms what i wrote, in that Packer fans should'nt hate Favre, and the majority of them probably still respect him. It is the thought of Favre leading the rival-Vikings to a Superbowl Championship that has the Packer fans up in arms, also adding that a third place finish would'nt sit well with the Cheeseheads.

Dave Myers of the Lacrosse Tribune scolds Packer fans:  "Those who claim to be concerned about how Favre is remembered in fact appear to be most concerned about having to see him play for the hated Vikings.  the feelings those people are experiencing are anger and resentment and should not be confused with concern or a sense of caring, and frankly are beneath the great tradition of Green Bay Packers fans.  If seeing Favre play for Minnesota destroys our memories of his career, it says more about us than it does about him.

Myers also makes three other good points:  No. 1: Favre wants to play.  No. 2: The Vikings want Favre to play, too. Childress realizes Favre is better than what they have with the two-headed quarterbacking monster that is Sage Rosenfels and Tarvaris Jackson.  And let’s not forget Favre’s ability to sell a team jersey. It’s hardly a coincidence that the Packers’ souvenir shop sales fell off by millions of dollars last year after their ugly divorce with Favre.  No. 3: The NFL would really like to see Favre in Minnesota. Not only would his playing for the Packers’ biggest rival create great storylines for the media to run with, it will help create great revenue streams for the league to run with.

i get espn magazine (cuz the wife had airline miles she had to burn up) and must say it definitely sucks worse than the vikes under steckel! i'm amazed how often their "experts" are a mile off the mark on things.

With ESPN one must consider the source, a company that hires the Ed Werders of the world.

screw espn, and their damn magazine too. and screw disney while your at it.

yes i'm hearing from my uncle and his scoop source,  he will spend the 4th with family at home and then make the anouncement sometime after say monday, tuesday, that gives him 2-3 weeks to get the housing thing nailed down for deanna and he'll be in for the ctart of camp. get ready viking boys

Whooo Hoooo im getting giddy, ive already bought a White Favre Jersey

So the new rumor is that Favre is going to make his announcement on July the 6th, anyone else hearing or seeing that ?? Mike, DallasDave, whats the scoop ???

Nothing new here. Crap head coach not coaches would be more accurate. Look what our defensive coordinators do once they go elsewhere.

Just in case we still have some people hoping Sage or T-Jack get to start at QB this year, check this link out.  Vinkings QB as a group is ranked 30 out of 32 NFL teams.
