Adam Caplan wonders if Brett Favre has any idea of what he's getting with Percy Harvin. He says he hasn't ever played with anyone like him. Harvin might be one of the most unique players to come out of any draft in a long time - very high risk and extremely high reward. Harvin is a big upgrade over Bobby Wade. With teams committing more attention to Harvin, there will be at least one less defender in the box to stop Peterson. One less defender trying to stop the league's best running back means better rushing lanes and bigger plays for Peterson. His presence also means less double coverage for Berrian. With emerging TE Shiancoe receiving more attention, the coaches will use him as an inside or slot receiver, especially when Shiancoe is moved out wide. Moreover, Harvin ran for an eye-popping 9.54 yards per carry at RB at Florida. Harvin is a "big-time space player" meaning once put in space to be able to beat an unblocked defender one-on-one, he's likely to win that battle most of the time. But Caplan shouldn’t forget the Vikings will also have a healthy Sidney Rice at WR#2, a even more massive offensive line and top 10 D.

SBR is handicapping the 2009 NFL MVP award. There have been 33 QBs and 17 RBs in 53 years. Perfectly logical that the two with the shortest MVP betting odds (+480) are the two most famous QBs: Peyton Manning and Tom Brady. Manning is the reigning and three-time MVP, while Brady won in 2007 after leading the Pats to an undefeated season.

“Very few people pay attention to the work being done by offensive linemen. But the Seahawks produced 2005 MVP Shaun Alexander at running back and went to the Super Bowl, then began to unravel the following year when guard Steve Hutchinson signed with the Vikings. Alexander became unemployed by the end of last year.

The top RB is Adrian Peterson at +850. He’s benefited from Hutchinson’s play on the offensive line, and from an endless cycle of dubious QBs whose best option has always been to hand Peterson the ball. But there’s a very good chance that Brett Favre, himself a three-time MVP, is going to join the Vikings this year. Although the love for Favre has turned a bit sour over the past few years, he’s still the biggest story in the NFL and is bound to take attention away from Peterson.

Charley Waters is reporting "The Tampa Bay Buccaneers say they're unaware of a rumor that they might be interested in free-agent QB Brett Favre if he can't come to terms with the Vikings." News must be slow at the StP Pioneer Press also to start reporting rumors that can't be verified.

I hate d a i l y n o r s e m a n . c o m. This winter they were nastier than Dunzinski about my support for Favre. One blogger called Favre "the Hitler of my Jewish faith." When I complained they said it was nothing. So the next time he said he hated someone I asked him if he was "the Hitler of his Jewish faith?" The next time I tried to comment they said I couldn't until I recognized my inappropritate comment. I never returned.
