Brett Favre Feels the Urgency

Brett Favre may be a waffler par excellence, but even he knows that time is running out for him to make a decision on his potential future career with the Vikings.

Favre conveyed this sense of urgency through his agent Bus Cook, who spoke to ESPN’s Rachel Nichols on the phone Monday morning.  Nichols tweeted about the no-doubt pleasant exchange:

Just spoke with agent Bus Cook, who tlked to Favre this morning. Brett still thinking things over, but knows decision has to come quite soon

Were I Brad Childress, I would call Brett today or tomorrow and just lay it on the line for him.  And “lay it on the line” doesn’t necessarily mean demanding that he show up for camp.  It does mean pressing him to give an answer so the Vikes can get him signed, get the news out there and be done with the thing for awhile.  And if he does want to skip camp?  Well, just let the big baby skip camp.  No use having him around there sulking.

Dunzinski has offered no evidence to support his contention that training camp is the reason for Favre’s indecisiveness.  I think the TV commercial is far more plausible.

  • Mike

Oh no, apparently Favre’s friends and family say they are leaving this decision solely up to him.  Now I’m thinking we’ll find out when he arrives at the last minute to training camp.

ESPN’s Mark Schleric thinks Favre wants to play.  He even offered as evidence his TV commercial about his indecivenesss to air in September.  The commercial will be much more valuable if he plays.

Rachel, while a fiery sex pot, doesn’t really break the best news over Twitter. But I guess we’ll all know by this weekend at least.

PJD is one kinky nerd.  Rachel Nichols is a fiery sex pot???

ESPN reporter Chris Mortensen will be traveling to Minnesota’s training camp “via Hattiesburg (Miss.)” in the “Mort Goes to Camp” itinerary released by the Worldwide Leader early today.

Macho, are you kidding me? She’s like the girl that listen to “The Cure” in high school and would smoke cigarettes with you while you were undressing the cheerleaders with your eyes. She’s Christina Ricci to Nicole Kidman, or Katy Perry to Jessica Simpson. I would totally be on board with that.

    I prefer Erin Andrews.

Former Vikings QB Rich Gannon, who recently chatted with Favre, thinks Favre will be in Mankato on Friday when workouts begin.

Gannon said Favre’s decision whether to continue to play has been tough. “Nobody can make a decision unless they know they’re 100-percent healthy and ready to go; it’s too hard unless you know for sure you can do it.”  We all miss it (playing), and in the back of our minds, we know we can still do it. That’s what drives you. no question, he can still do it if he’s committed to do it.”

Gannon was asked if Favre can afford to miss the start of training camp.  “In a perfect world, he would have been here in March,” Gannon said. “In an imperfect world, he would have been here on June 1. Now you’re getting to a point where it’s critical because you’re talking about a guy who’s not 21 or 25, but 39. It’s not just his arm; it could be a hamstring, a hip flexor, it could be anything, and that puts him out for four or five weeks.

Perhaps PJD is thinking about Rachel Nichols, the actress:

Ok, in regards to that commercial.  I’m going to try to dig and see if we can disect anything from that in itself.

I think for him to do this commercial and basically making fun of himself about his inability to make a decision, could only indicate that he’s coming back.  For him to choose to stay retired, and mock this whole situation would really end up making him look poorly in my opinion.

  • Mike

Yes Jim, the commercial wouldn’t be effective for Sears also.  It would be like he couldn’t make up his mind and then decided not to buy.

should sign michael vick over favre becasue of his age andrunning abiltiy to evade the sack. and his capability to gain yardage on a broken play.

  • Mike

Vick is not even considered a starting QB anymore, a wildcat QB.  Even less accurate a passer than T=Jack, which is necessary for WCO.  Vikes need good passer than pull defenders out of the box for AD, not a good runner that will pull defenders into the box.

Just give me the contract.  I’ll fly to Hattiesburg, Miss. and ask for Bretts autograph.  Tired of checking daily, get it done I want a team this year.

Pro Football Weekly quotes NFL Insiders as saying :

I’ve never known Brett Favre to want to hand the ball off. If Favre comes back, does that mean (the Vikings) are going to keep the ball out of Adrian Peterson’s hands? He just makes eye contact and throws the ball on running plays. But, hey, John Elway never won a Super Bowl until he learned to hand it off.”

  • Mike

Somebody should tell Brett Favre that the Vikings need the 39 year old Favre and not the young Favre gunslinger.  Favre tells friends his arm is good, but he is concerned he won’t be able to give 100% well into the season.

But the Vikings are better when the QB mostly just hands the ball off to the Vikings’ dominant running backs.  Because AD is such a good RB, the Vikings are not the typical pass-first West Coast Offense.  The Vikings just need a QB who can read defenses and throw accurate passes out to Vikings receivers when defenses load the box against AD.

Just think about John Elway, another West Coast Offense QB with a great RB and offensive line as well as defense, who also had his bicep tendon released.  Elway went on to win 2 Super Bowls before retiring as perhaps the greatest QB of all time.

mike hit it right on. elway even said this the other day when he was on nfl net. he did’nt win till he had davis. farve and peterson would be untouchable.

wow ole dan knows how to work the key board here. he knows exactly how to rile everyone up to comment. he is “pacmanjonesin” everyone here. he sensationalizes everything on his pacman site and has learned how to get the hits on that site. he’s bringin it home here now. agrivating people gets hits and traffic. i wonder if he really is a viking fan? does anyone really know? he maybe a cowboy fan, you know, with the pacman blog he has? thats what i think. everyone thinks i’m a closet viking fan, but i’ve laid the truth out more than once. if anyone thinks i’m not a cowboy fan, they have’nt read my posts. i follow the vikings because i live in n.iowa in close proximity for business purposes. if the vikings stay in minnesota, i make money. so does my family. is dan just a businessman that makes a hit from the vikings, or a real fan……i wonder?

Dunz is wrong.  Ryan Longwelll says “I think he wants to be in there for the full time even though he doesn’t necessarily enjoy training camp. He wants to be there.”
