Jared Allen Comments on Brett Favre's Decision to Stay Retired

Jared Allen spoke to Jay Glazer about Brett Favre‘s decision to leave the pads hanging right where they are.

“I just got off the phone with Brad, and Brett said he’s staying retired,” the defensive end said. “He said he couldn’t deal with the daily grind. He said he felt like he let us down before it got started.

“You know what, we were never really sure he was coming anyway, so we’ve always backed up Tarvaris (Jackson) and Sage (Rosenfels). We feel we can win with the guys we have here. I’m glad it’s over.”

Well, Jared can say the players were always backing T-Jack and Sage, but the question is, do T-Jack and Sage feel like the organization had their backs, or has the Favre saga filled them with a bitterness that will linger?

Hopefully those guys are professional enough to let it roll off their backs – even if they have all the reason in the world to feel like they have been jerked around.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA…at least Rosenutz and TJax-off get a full training camp and preseason before they suck…HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

  • Devin

Going to say it now…worst offseason ever.  When do we chant for Chilly’s head?  Or how about the GM?  Cause right now the Vikings are pissing away the Williams Wall and AP.

  • Dave

Well Chilly does it once again. The only question is what will he do next to screw up such a talented team. How many years do we have left for this guy to piss away a good defense, great running backs and decent receivers. We are now stuck with waiting for him to make the wrong decision by starting T.Jackass and not sage.

  • Jim

This is just an unfortunate situation.  Because you know if Favre was 100% healthy he would be on the Vikings right now.  After all Favre has been through I deinitely trust him if he says he’s not sure his body can withstand 16 games.  And if he can’t its better if he sits out. I don’t think we need to start blaming Chilly for this situation either.  The only way I think you can look at this, is you had 2 willing parties, but it just didn’t work out.  The contract was written everything was in place, except Favre’s body, which is what matters the most.

  • Jim

    Let’s get a T-Jack-Sage poll going.  Danzinski?

    My vote is definitely Sage.

  • Devin

You’re not going to blame Chilly?  Why?

Many people said it’s not wise to persue a 40 year old guy who has taken this much of a beating.  His body is not going to hold up.  I’ve said this for a while, others have said this, how could Chilly not see this?

What are you going to do with the two guys sitting there wondering what’s going to happen with them?  How do they believe him, or Jared Allen, AP, Berand Berrian, and others who told Favre “we need you” when they say “yup we’re good….really.”

No.  If you were good with what you had you wouldn’t sell your team’s soul for Brett Favre.  I’m sorry but this is what happens when you gamble a year on one player.  It looks great when it works out, when it doesn’t people start to get fired.

  • Devin

    I would vote Sage

  • Mike

Favre will be the Vikings QB.

  • Jim

lol Mike that’s a bold prediction.  I still hope you’re right.

  • Mike

Jim, come on all this is crap to get out of training camp.  His still throwing, preparing for the season, saying he is not sure of his decision.  Mariuci says he just isn’t emotionally ready.  What a croc!  He isn’t emotionally ready for training camp that he hates.  Favre is not going to go out because he didn’t want to play when he is physically able.  And the closer to the end of training camp the greater the itch.  This is a no brainer.  Favre will be the Vikings QB.

  • All Day 28

Mike honestly as much as I wanted him to be the QB, and you as well,  im tired of it. With this choice today, even when training camp is about to end if he decides he wants to come back and play, i’d rather just tell him go find another team.

  • Mike

Chilly has the patience of a saint and he will be rewarded.  Ted Thompson gave up and he will pay.

  • Macho Man

I agree with Mike.  You can’t take people seriously.  When women try to test me with rejection, I just laugh.  Just stay cool guys and we’ll win.

  • Dave

wow, really some of you guys need to wake up. we are going to be a good team with a bad coach and a bad q.b if it is t.jack. Favre is not coming back or he would have just delayed his final answer. Wake Up and get ready for sitting on the edge of your seat waiting for T.J. to throw his first unforced interception, and then the next, the next and so on………

  • Matt

    What could have been……..

  • stan

ok  guys..  favre jacked us over.. maybe it was an inside joke with all the packer fans..

    but, how about this??

let’s get vick for like $350k to give him a chance.

tony dungy said he’s paid the price and he’s learned his lesson.

come on coach.   what do you think man?  be a huge step up from jackson and rosenfelder.

  • Mike

You guys just don’t get it.  Favre will be the Vikings QB>

  • Devin

Mike it’s now getting sad.  Let go.  It’s over.  He’s not coming here.

  • Mike

You’re sad Devin.  You can’t seem to remember that this isn’t the first or even second time Favre said he was staying retired only to hear he was trying to come back.  We’ll know it’s over when the fat lady sings or Chilly says through his own mouth that he has closed the door.  Chilly never set a deadline of training camp.

  • Mike

Favre is saying he will consider coming back if a QB goes down in the first 8 games.  He will continue to train and throw.  He doesn’t sound done to me.  He just sounds like someone who wants to play in a relief role (ie not go through training camp).

  • Bloom

If he’s not coming to camp I don’t want him at all

  • Favre H8R

What a sad day for Queens fans – Hahahaha!
When will you realize that you do in fact have the worst coach in the league. Favre is a little bit-h that no one can trust.
    Enjoy the upcoming season!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Mike

ESPN is now saying Tarvaris Jackson is expected to be the Vikings’ starter.  I can’t watch another year of slamming AD into defenses loading 8 and 9 in the box .  Chilly better do everything he can to get Favre here even if it is after 4-5 games, which by the way are easier games.

  • http://Pennsylvania bernie jelinek

I was hopeful that Favre would play this season, but i was’nt surprised of his decision not to. Now, as fans we’ve got to move foward because the show is over. Unless we make some kind’ve deal for Vick, which is highly unlikely, i believe the spotlight falls on Sage Rosenfels as the starter. I just can’t bear to see another redzone INT returned for a TD that T-Jack is famous for. Mike, i’m with Bloom and the other fans that if Favre does’nt show for camp, i would’nt want him to show at all. It’s bad enough that he left us hanging this long, we as fans deserve better than these Mickey Mouse games.

  • xpackerfan

Sad day for me, I was looking for a fantastic kick ass season.  Vikings have a good team, wish you guys the best. bye

  • Mike

Doogie Wilson says in the Star Tribune:

“This is a MN sports letdown of epic proportions. With a healthy Favre — and when not hurt the first 11 games of 2008 was very good — this team had a legitimate chance to win the Super Bowl. They have as many elite players at other positions as any team in the league. But, with Tarvaris Jackson or Sage Rosenfels at the QB helm, they have about as good a chance to win a championship as Jessica Simpson does of getting back together with Tony Romo. Blackouts here we come?”

Still, there are some perceptive people like me that don’t believe Favre is done.  Heck, even he may not know it.

  • http://landryhat davedallasfan

take heed boys, my uncles packer pete and vikeman got together yesterday, they both agreed, farve WIIL BE THE VIKING QB THIS YEAR. vikeman says he will miss the first 2-3weeks of camp, but as you noticed in the highlite reels, he is still working out.WHY?????? WHY? because he is not quite ready at this point, but needs a little more time……..mike will agree……he will be the viking qb. packer pete says this is “so farve” it smells of a shroud to get the heat off from the media so the vikings can get camp underway without the circus. then farve will enter when the dust settles and his arm is stronger. he wiil be there this year. vikeman calls it.

  • http://landryhat davedallasfan

farve has one more thing to prove…..that he can beat his body one more time. he does’nt have to carry this team. the D and AP will. he just has to come to grips with that, and that will happen as he sees camp open and unfold……he hears the roar of the media and the fans…..it will get the blood pumpin and the adrenaline flowing again…….he will be the viking qb in 2009

  • http://landryhat davedallasfan

camp is the worst thing in the world for the old guy. it is exactly what the young guys need , but the old guy hates it. it beats him up even more. it wears them out before the 16 game season starts. what favre is really saying is that he can’t make it through another camp…..the 16 game season is nothing…..watch, he’ll be there after camp is almost done.

  • Mike

Go Vikeman!  There are a few fans who agree with me.

  • Mike

Why can’t the Vikings just train in Mississsippi this year and let go home after a short day?

  • http://landryhat davedallasfan

farve hates camp with a passion. packer pete says he did’nt think farve would sign in time for camp anyway, he said he would have been floored if he would have. he knew farve would do this, and not go thru at least the start of camp. he’ll be there once they get the rookies all beat down with cals….then when the meat is served, he’ll be there to work. that gives him 2-3 weeks more. vikeman’s insider says chilly exspects farve to still give a push to change his mind and needs more time. chill knew this all along, but now it takes the focus off farve and on things at hand so farve can continue to rehab. watch and see in the next 2 weeks if there still are reports that farve is still working out. yes vikeman has his sources. you are right mike.

  • Macho Man

Actually, our grand poobar the Dunz predicted this before me.  I hoped Favre would see how important it is to get timing with the receivers at camp.  Unfortunately Favre just isn’t as dedicated as Peyton Manning.

  • Mike

I agree with you Macho and also Vikeman.

  • Mike

Chilly has a tough job ahead.  ESPN’s Chris Mortensen says Favre might be able to come in around game 4.  He says Tarvaris Jackson has been beating out Sage Rosenfels in OTAs.  Tarvaris might need replacemnet before week 4 especially since ne needed only needed 2 weeks to lose his job to Frerotte last year.   But Mortensen says Chilly must now convince T-Jack that his efforts to get Favre are over.  Of course, Chilly didn’t have any trouble switching QBs twice last year: T-Jack to Frerotte and Frerotte back to T-Jack.

  • Mike

Brett Favre has been contradicting himself:

He told Peter King: ”I thought I could make it through the season, though I wouldn’t be 100 percent. But is that the way you want to enter a season? I don’t think so.

It was hard to keep telling myself, ‘Brett, the second week of camp you’ll feel better.’ I don’t know if that would have been true. So mentally, I don’t think there’s much to explain about it. I just didn’t think my body would hold up the way it had in the past.

What a croc!  Favre is coming back around the second week of training camp.

  • Mike

I’m thinking Chilly doesn’t really care about what others think, just getting the best QB he can.  Remember last year he gave Frerotte the starting job for the rest of the year and then gave it back to T-Jack.  This year Chilly needs to win or he might not be here.  Moreover, nobody thinks either T-Jack or Sage is the long-term answer so who cares what they think?
On the other side, Favre can make it through the season but just not 100%???  Who is ever 100%?  He just wants to come in the second week of camp.

  • Mike

Now Brett Favre is saying he might come back if a contender needs him …. but it would have to be the MN Vikings.

  • Devin

Mike I’ll make a bet with you…I bet that Brett is done with the Vikes and will not be there two weeks into camp.  If he doesn’t show by then you shut up on this issue cause you’re just looking pathetic…too many other good story lines in the NFL right now than this one.

If I lose and he does show I’ll never post on this site again.  Deal?

  • Mike

Devin you are looking pathetic but not realizing how much Favre changes his mind.  I will take that deal if Favre gets until October 1.  I planned to quit blogging as soon as the Favre issue was solved anway.

  • Mike

I also disagree with Devin that there are “too many other good story lines in the NFL right now than this one.”  Like what, Bobby Wade trashing Cutler?  The only team I care about is the Vikings and they appear to be going forward with an unacceptable QB -Tarvaris Jackson.  I will not watch another year of Chilly slamming the greatest running back of all time into defenses loading the box, because T-Jack can’t throw an accurate pass.  I’m not even interested in the Vikings or football unless Favre comes back.

  • Mike

Bulletin board material for Brett Favre.  Packer Report’s Bill Huber has written an article “Favre’s decision gives Thompson vindication” in which he quotes Chargers general manager A.J. Smith as saying “The only thing I’ve been thinking about throughout this whole situation, is how smart Ted Thompson looks.”

  • Mike

Mike Florio writes “Amid mounting evidence that Brett Favre is interested in playing football if he can find a way to shorten the season as it applies to him, there are some in the Vikings organization who are convinced that Favre will attempt to join the team after the first two weeks of training camp.  And that coach Brad Childress will welcome him with open arms.”

  • Dave

16 years of cheering against and cursing at him, doesn’t die easy.  I don’t want him here.  I don’t want him to taint my favorite team.  This is not Sharper or Longwell, this is the face of those that live in the land of cheese.  I hate those fudge packing f—-s.  I cheered so hard when he threw 4 picks to the Vikes in the playoffs.  I saw a purple 4 t-shirt a few days ago, and it pissed me off.  He is not what the Vikings need, he distanced himself from his teammates in NY, and he is not the type of player that the Vikings are trying to accumulate,  There is no team in his thinking, he is me first guy.  Nothing will change this.  I’m so happy he is not coming to Minny.,

  • Dale

Mike I love your continued support that Brett will be with the Viking this season I just hope it will happen and I support you with everything you say I just hope you are right and I myself don’t think we should count Brett out just yet don’t know if it will be after training camp or a few games into the season but i just know he will want to come back and play this season with the vikings, like his agent bus cook said earlier today he would only play for the viking, i just hope the viking and brad childress will still want him but like i’ve said before i’ve followed brett for a very long time and i just don’t believe he would have had surgery, work out so much, and talk about wanting to come back if he didn’t plan on it, i just know he hates training camp. I just really hope if he does come back its before the 1st game of the actual season and not after, but mike i’m behind you all the way and hope you will continue to support brett though these next few weeks and we’ll see what happens :)

  • Dale

well i now believe its offically over brett will not be coming to the vikings and i still had hope it would happen even after yesterday but tonight brad childress said he has ended the chase of brett favre. I think brett will regard this decision cause i think he believed the viking would take him in whenever he was ready but i truly believe the vikings are done and i don’t really blame them. I am just still shock brett would give this once in a lifetime chance to play for the vikings they would have went all the way all they needed was a QB but like i said he will regard this. Like i said in my earlier post i’ve supported brett for years and will cont to no matter what happens and i wish the vikings the best of luck this season with t-jack & rosenfels you guys dersevre it and hopefully they will get to the superbowl w/out brett  i believe they can :)
Here is the leak about the viking being done w/ brett for good on espn.
    http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4364798
Mike what do you think of this new saga now? do you think the vikings would actually still take him?

  • Mike

I will believe Favre will be the Vikings’ QB until Chilly closes the door with some kind of a deadline.  He never had a deadline of training camp.  I had already read the quote from the ESPN link above.  But I saw that when Chilly was pressed to definitively rule out Favre, he would not say Favre is definitely ruled out.  Instead, the most he would say is “There’s not a chance, from my standpoint. I’m going forward with the guys we have, and we’ll have a great competition.”  There is too much wiggle room here – for example he could say later I didn’t believe there was a chance Favre would be healthy, but now he says he is.

  • Devin

Mike you were a Packer fan at one point weren’t you?  You are one of those guys who traded in his green and gold when he was traded…aren’t you?

  • Mike

    Sacrilage, you a-hole Devin.

  • Dale

Here is even more evident that Favre is done for good. I truly believe he will not be back playing football again but Mike i still for some strange reason have hope he will deciede to play but very doutbful now
