Vikings 2009 Roster
This is the full 53-man roster as of Sunday morning, practice squad additions to be made public some time today. There are 6 rookies including the undrafted Jon Cooper. Brett Favre, entering his 18th season, is the longest-tenured. If there are any mistakes, blame them on Vikings.com, cause I copied and pasted it from there. I like the full-name treatment. Christopher Kluwe. Robert Wade. Benjamin Sapp. 30 Allen, Asher CB 69 Allen, Jared DE 87 Berrian, Bernard WR 54 Brinkley, Jasper LB 62 Cook, Ryan T 68 Cooper, Jon [...]
Vikings Waive John David Booty
Jason LaCanfora has the first scoop of cutdown day, and it is about a quarterback. No, Sage Rosenfels has not been cut, nor has Tarvaris Jackson been traded. Nor has Brett Favre decided to retire again. The scoop is that the Vikings have placed John David Booty on waivers. It’s easy enough to figure out the Vikings’ other moves: keep both T-Jack and Sage, hope Booty clears waivers and re-sign him to the practice squad. No idea how Friday night’s “embarrassing” (Chilly‘s word) Sage and Booty performances figured in to this decision. Clearly, Jackson was the second best quarterback in [...]
Did Sage Save T-Jack?
5 pm Saturday is the deadline for teams to trim their rosters to 53. Even as we speak, Rick Spielman, Brad Childress and company are agonizing over who to keep, who to send packing, and who to try and sneak onto the practice squad. The quarterback situation was by far the stickiest one going into Friday night’s preseason finale against Dallas. Far from clearing things up, the various QBs’ performances in that game made the water even muddier. Brett Favre, as we know, spent the entire game on the sideline in a t-shirt joking with his new teammates and pretending [...]
NFL Fines Brett Favre $10,000 for Crackback Block
Brett Favre‘s crackback block had already garnered him plenty of criticism, and now it has cost him in the wallet too. Today the NFL fined the quarterback $10,000 for going low on Texans defensive back Eugene Wilson, according to multiple tweets (Judd Zulgad got there first so we’ll cite him). The play happened during Monday night’s preseason game, when Favre, lined up wide in the Wildcat, attempted to block for Percy Harvin. The play received almost instantaneous negative reaction, not just because Favre had blatantly cheap-shotted a guy, but because the Vikings looked like idiots for risking Favre on such [...]
Preseason Game 4 Preview: Vikings vs. Cowboys
Wade Stays
Bobby Wade has ducked the axe and will remain a Viking. The receiver reportedly agreed to slash his 2009 salary from $3 million to $1.5 million, making it easier for the Vikings to justify retaining him. Clearly, with Percy Harvin in the fold, Wade is going to be less of a factor in the offense. But who knows? Maybe Brett will decide he likes Wade and wants him on the field. Whatever Brett wants, Brett gets.
Bernard Berrian Doesn't Like New NFL Twitter Policy
Bernard Berrian is one of the handful of Vikes who tweet on a regular basis (Visanthe Shiancoe is another, but I’m not allowed to follow him anymore after he blocked me for sending him wise-ass remarks about towels). Bernard, or B_Twice as he calls himself on Twitter, enjoys tweeting so much that he would like to do it just before and after, and perhaps during, games. But the NFL doesn’t want its employees or employees of its teams engaging in that kind of activity. And that policy has B_Twice up-in-arms. The receiver tweeted: NFL passes rule that we can’t twitter [...]
Tarvaris Jackson Will Most Likely be Traded
This morning’s Star-Trib reports that the Vikings have called teams and asked what they would be willing to give up in exchange for Tarvaris Jackson. I don’t know, a 7th? Maybe a 6th? For a guy with 2+ years of starting experience, a shaky health history and loads of question marks? I really don’t care what the Vikings get in any trade for T-Jack – I just want him gone. Bye bye. Seeya. Sorry, but the T-Jack act has long-since grown tired. The bit where he wows everyone in practice/preseason, then looks like a clueless fool when it counts. Okay, [...]
Bobby Wade Could be Cut
It caught me a little by surprise to hear that, among Vikings insiders, there is a fast-emerging belief that Bobby Wade will be among the men cut when the team trims its roster to the required 53 on Saturday. Then I thought about it for a second and realized that it kind of makes sense. Percy Harvin is the natural guy to play in the slot, with Sidney Rice and Bernard Berrian on the outside (assuming Berrian ever gets on the field). And with Harvin and Jaymar Johnson holding down return duties, well, you realize pretty quick how diminished Wade’s [...]
I’m not sure if LaDainian Tomlinson‘s remarks about Adrian Peterson actually qualify as controversial, but they do certainly qualify as interesting. Case you missed it, here’s what LT had to say about AD: Jim Brown was telling Peterson he’s the best runner he’d seen in a long time. I was sitting there reading it thinking, “Wow.” The difference with me is you can put me out on that field and there will be nothing I can’t do. I won’t have to come off the field. Adrian has to come off sometimes on third down. Running routes, he’s still not there [...]
