The viking D laid a big turd on the field in the 4th quarter – unfortunately, brett is not going to be able to dig them out from under that growing pile of crap every week.

If will be a shame if the vikes fail this year because the D can’t keep them in ballgames.

Let me bottom line this thing for everyone. The regular season is all about getting in position to win the whole thing. Ideally a first round bye. I hate to borrow this from the raydahs, but …..JUST WIN BABY!!!! If the secondary is still sputtering close to playoff time I’ll worry about it. For now I just want home field in the playoffs and we’ll take our chances. Getting all worked up over each individual game is stupid. Just win and I almost forgot………..STAY HEALTHY!!!!

I disagree with Ted. Your analysis is not hateful, just critical. There’s a difference. And while I’m a diehard Vikings fan and so excited about our 6-0 start (thank you football gods) that I can barely think of anything else, I agree with your critiques.

First, though it turns out that Winfield is one of our most valuable and irreplaceable players (behind Kevin Williams, Bret Favre, and Purple Jesus), his absence wasn’t the problem on Sunday. Ray Rice hurt us more than Derrick Mason and the other Raven wideouts. Open field tackling has been nonexistent, particularly in the 4th Quarters of games. I’m calling out E.J. Henderson, Madieu Williams, and Tyrell Johnson.

Second, we miss Sharper and Birk. Letting them go hurt our team. Now that it appears that we could be Super Bowl contenders, Wilf should go all in and make some trades to shore up the secondary and defensive line.

Third, I agree with you: E.J. Henderson has regressed and is not playing at the high level he played out before he got hurt last year. I wonder if he’s not going to be the same dominant player?

Fourth, the Vikings look confused and tired in the 4th Quarter. It’s like they run so hard for the 1st 3 quarters that they don’t have the juice needed to finish teams off. Do we need more substitutions, better schemes, what?! Certainly getting an extra solid DL and CB would help this team go all the way.

I would SO EASILY rather listen to a chick breathing into a mic. Not even sexily, but like labored fat person breathing. It would be better than any announcer we’ve ever had on TV. Jerks.
