Heartbreak

Posted by: danzinski

It looked like the Favre magic was going to work again today in Pittsburgh, until a screen pass to Chester Taylor went awry, handing the Steelers a heartbreaking and game-ending pick-6.

The play came just after one of the most impressive runs of Adrian Peterson’s career, a third down reception and freight-train job on William Gay that seemed for a moment to have set the Vikings up for at least a game-tying field goal.

Of course the Vikes would never have been in that position had it not been for Percy Harvin’s kick-off return touchdown, which came in answer to a Favre fumble and LaMarr Woodley TD return.

And I didn’t even mention the insane catch Sidney Rice made on the sidelines to keep another drive alive.

Yes, it was that kind of game.  Another crazy fourth quarter.  A whole load of stuff to chew on for the next couple of days.  For right now, there is extreme disappointment.  But there is also the encouragement that comes with knowing the defense made a better showing than some of us expected, and that the Vikings overall showed incredible heart in nearly pulling out a miracle win in a very hostile setting against a playoff-bound team.

Reading the postings all around Vikings land, it almost seems like fans are feeling better about this loss than they did on last week’s win. I concur. Yeah, too many penalties, but they did hang tough and had a chance to win til the very end, defense played waaay better than expected and there were some awesome efforts on offense.

I agree, the Vikings looked a lot better defensively than last week, with that terrible soft zone coverage that gets eaten up all the time. However, felt pretty frustrated with the two passes with 1st down and goal inside the 1yard line, which had to feel like a kick in the teeth to Adrian Peterson… “Don’t understand that”… Penalties, I don’t even want to comment on penalty calling, Frustrated to say the least. Go Vikings!

[...] an 88-yard kickoff return by Percy Harvin.  And an 82-yard interception return by Keyaron Fox.  Oh, there also was a Steelers’ 27-17 victory.  Hooray [...]
