Vikings Playoff Scenarios

Figuring out playoff scenarios is like doing math:  too hard for an idiot like me.

Thankfully, NFL Director of Media Relations Michael Signora has a twitter feed through which he sends out all the official scenarios as calculated by the brilliant minds at the NFL.  These scenarios are 100% guaranteed to be accurate.

This weekend, the scenarios are in play for the 10-1 Vikings.

Should the Vikings defeat the (probably Warner-less) Cardinals, they would clinch a playoff spot for the second straight season.  Should the Vikes win and the Packers lose to the Ravens, the Vikes would clinch the NFC North, by virtue of their massive tiebreaker advantage.

Once the Vikes clinch, we can begin thinking about seeding.  Given the way the Saints handled the Patriots last night, it seems a long-shot that the Vikings could leapfrog them into the #1 seed.  But grabbing the #2 seed and a first round bye?  That seems just about in the bag for the Purple.

The Vikings own the tiebreaker over the Saints since the Vikes loss came against an AFC team and the Saints only play NFC teams the rest of the way. That means that if they finish with the same record, the Vikings will have a better conference record and win the tiebreaker.

Seeding, it does’nt matter who the home team is, us or the Saints. Sure it would be nice to play 2 playoff games at home in Minnesota, which i hope happens. I do feel strongly though about this teams’ chances at New Orleans, if we play in the NFC Championship game. We are both considered dome teams anyways, and we match up with them well, in fact i think our defense is better, and you’ll see it in the playoffs. Also, the Saints should’nt overlook their next game against the Redskins at Washington. It is very hard to win at that stadium, and the Skins defense looked better than New England’s. I believe we’ll have a much easier game this weekend against a weak Cardinal defense.
