Despite the comical charade Brett Favre and the Vikings insist on going through, everyone already knows Brett will be returning to quarterback the Purple in 2010. Now we know which team will get the first look at Favre in the preseason: the San Francisco 49ers. The NFL announced the preseason schedule today, and San Francisco will be the Vikes’ second opponent, on August 22. A little heads-up for all the Jared Allen fans out there: Tonight, the Vikings defensive end will be co-hosting Sports Soup on Versus. The show is on at 11 ET, so all you Lost fanatics will be able to catch it. Jared brings the crazy wherever he goes, so the program should be very entertaining, and possibly controversial. I predict a 95% chance of mullet humor.

Donovan McNabb said this week that, if the Eagles do decide to trade him, his destination of choice would be Minnesota. Obviously, this was only wishful thinking by Donovan, and not an indication that any trade to the Vikings is in the works. Because the last time I looked, the Vikings already have a quarterback for 2010, and are simply waiting for him to give his official word. Brad Childress loves old Eagles, so it’s only natural that he should be asked about any Philly guys who become available. These days, there are two long-time Eagles whose names are out there: Brian Westbrook and Donovan McNabb. Westbrook, being a free agent, can be had by anyone willing to pay him. Unfortunately for the former Pro Bowler, the market for his services seems drier than the Mojave. Some hopeful fans took stories of That Guy’s involvement in the failed recruitment of LaDainian Tomlinson as proof that their hero will be returning for a second shot at glory in 2010. “Not so fast” says That Guy’s chief spokesman Ed Werder. The LaDainian Tomlinson watch can now end.  Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the free agent running back has spurned the Vikings and signed a contract with the New York Jets. The Vikes courted Tomlinson late last week, hoping he could step into the third-down back role vacated by Chester Taylor.  Tomlinson left Minnesota without a deal, and flew to New York to meet with crazy Rex Ryan and the gang. LaDainian Tomlinson has visited Minnesota, heard what Brad Childress and Zygi Wilf and Rick Spielman had to say…and gone on to New York to sit down with Rex Ryan and the Jets. If Tomlinson is looking for touches, New York would probably be the better destination.  If he’s looking for a chance to win a championship? The big Vikings news this week is their pursuit of LaDainian Tomlinson, who was recently released by the San Diego Charges, the team for which he once won NFL MVP. Tomlinson will reportedly be in Winter Park to meet with Brad Childress and the gang on Thursday.  Chilly said in an interview at University of Minnesota Pro Day that he has already spoken to LT, and made sure the future Hall-of-Famer understands that, if he does sign with the Vikings, he will be a back-up to Adrian Peterson.
