Brett Favre Will Make 2010 Debut Vs. 49ers
Despite the comical charade Brett Favre and the Vikings insist on going through, everyone already knows Brett will be returning to quarterback the Purple in 2010. Now we know which team will get the first look at Favre in the preseason: the San Francisco 49ers. The NFL announced the preseason schedule today, and San Francisco will be the Vikes’ second opponent, on August 22. We assume Brett will be skipping the first preseason game like last year, so, Favre’s first action should come then. Unless Brett decides he doesn’t feel like making the trip out to Frisco – in which [...]
Jared Allen Guest Hosting Sports Soup Tonight on Versus
A little heads-up for all the Jared Allen fans out there: Tonight, the Vikings defensive end will be co-hosting Sports Soup on Versus. The show is on at 11 ET, so all you Lost fanatics will be able to catch it. Jared brings the crazy wherever he goes, so the program should be very entertaining, and possibly controversial. I predict a 95% chance of mullet humor.
More Proof Brett Favre is Coming Back: Vikings and Raiders are Talking Sage Rosenfels Trade
Donovan McNabb said this week that, if the Eagles do decide to trade him, his destination of choice would be Minnesota. Obviously, this was only wishful thinking by Donovan, and not an indication that any trade to the Vikings is in the works. Because the last time I looked, the Vikings already have a quarterback for 2010, and are simply waiting for him to give his official word. But this doesn’t mean the Vikings aren’t pursuing quarterback trade possibilities. As a matter of fact, according to Michael Lombardi of the National Football Post, Minnesota is doing just that. In this [...]
Brad Childress Talks Brian Westbrook, Donovan McNabb
Brad Childress loves old Eagles, so it’s only natural that he should be asked about any Philly guys who become available. These days, there are two long-time Eagles whose names are out there: Brian Westbrook and Donovan McNabb. Westbrook, being a free agent, can be had by anyone willing to pay him. Unfortunately for the former Pro Bowler, the market for his services seems drier than the Mojave. Judging by Childress’ remarks, the Vikings do not view Westbrook as a top target either. “I don’t know if we’re far enough down the free-agent trail here now,” Chilly said when asked [...]
I Think We All Get the Hint on Brett Favre
I’m beginning to think ESPN people get paid not by the hour or word, but by how often they ask someone in the Vikings organization about Brett Favre. Yes, I realize he’s big news. No, I do not think it’s necessary to inquire about his plans every day of the week. I think Brad Childress probably agrees. Not that he would ever show his irritation. We know how Chilly loves playing it close to the vest. He was asked again today at the owners meetings in Orlando. Chilly said what he always says: Brett has as much time as he [...]
No it’s Not Just You, the Site is Different
As you’ve surely already noticed, unless you read the Braille version of the site, The Viking Age has undergone a radical redesign. The purpose of this Jerry Jones-level face lift is to make the site more user-friendly and professional-looking. Unfortunately for you, the writing will still be the same old cranky, ill-informed crap I’ve been dishing out for years. Can’t have everything. Hope you enjoy the new look and feel, anyway.
Some hopeful fans took stories of That Guy’s involvement in the failed recruitment of LaDainian Tomlinson as proof that their hero will be returning for a second shot at glory in 2010. “Not so fast” says That Guy’s chief spokesman Ed Werder. According to Werder, who spends the majority of his pitiful existence jammed further up That Guy’s butt than I would’ve thought physically possible, The Old Gunslinger played only a minor role in the Tomlinson push. Far from providing assurances about his future, That Guy reportedly texted Tomlinson that he has “no clue” if he will play for the [...]
LaDainian Tomlinson Signs With the Jets
The LaDainian Tomlinson watch can now end. Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the free agent running back has spurned the Vikings and signed a contract with the New York Jets. The Vikes courted Tomlinson late last week, hoping he could step into the third-down back role vacated by Chester Taylor. Tomlinson left Minnesota without a deal, and flew to New York to meet with crazy Rex Ryan and the gang. Whatever Rex Ryan said, and whatever money the Jets offered, it was all more to L.T.’s liking than the Vikings’ efforts. And this leaves the Vikes still searching for [...]
LaDainian Tomlinson Visits, Moves on
LaDainian Tomlinson has visited Minnesota, heard what Brad Childress and Zygi Wilf and Rick Spielman had to say…and gone on to New York to sit down with Rex Ryan and the Jets. If Tomlinson is looking for touches, New York would probably be the better destination. If he’s looking for a chance to win a championship? The conventional wisdom is that Minnesota would afford him the better opportunity to taste Super Bowl glory. On the assumption that That Guy and not Tarvaris Jackson, Sage Rosenfels or Tim Tebow would be starting at quarterback. It would be interesting to know what [...]
Free Agency Update: LaDainian Tomlinson Visits, Benny Sapp Returns, and We Now Have a Kickoff Guy
The big Vikings news this week is their pursuit of LaDainian Tomlinson, who was recently released by the San Diego Charges, the team for which he once won NFL MVP. Tomlinson will reportedly be in Winter Park to meet with Brad Childress and the gang on Thursday. Chilly said in an interview at University of Minnesota Pro Day that he has already spoken to LT, and made sure the future Hall-of-Famer understands that, if he does sign with the Vikings, he will be a back-up to Adrian Peterson. The Vikes’ interest in Tomlinson has seemingly signaled that they are not [...]
