Lito Sheppard Signs. Let’s Pretend We Know What This Means for the Draft.

Lito Sheppard‘s visit to the Vikings today obviously went well, as the free agent cornerback has signed a 1-year, $2 million deal with the team.

And what does this mean for the draft?

God only knows.

Here’s what I hope it doesn’t mean: Tim Tebow in purple.

The plot, at least, seems to be thickening a little. Which is good news because, frankly, this pre-draft period has been dull as crap.

I’m ready to bring on the picks.

It means the Vikings will not be in a rush to get a corner.

Look for the vikings to take a S, QB or OL.

I think Chilly wants Tebow, but if someone like S Mays or C/G Pouncy falls to them, they will draft him instead.

agreeing with Mike, i believe the Vikings may take either a safety, or a DT though, I’d prefer an OL cause tbh i’m not a big fan of Sullivan, had high hopes for the guy but it was all failure.. i say Pouncey or a Safety, not Mays, guy can’t cover for crap but hit hard, probably take Chris Cook and convert him to a Safety in stead..

Something I’ve learned about watching Chilly and Spielman draft over the last couple of years is that if you really really don’t want the Vikes to take someone, or you really really want to see them draft a guy, and the Vikings don’t. You are wrong. So far, they have rarely been wrong. If the Vikings do in fact draft Tebow, well, In Spiel We Trust.

You’ve got that totally backwards. Tebow will be the best QB out of this draft, and possibly the best player. If the Vikes take him, Favre will come back for as long as it takes to get him ready. Bet on that. I think that the Vikings know this. Probably Brett told them.

By getting Lito will help Minnesota but it doesn’t mean they won’t draft a corner in round 1. Many great QB’s were drafted in the later rounds, but if you want to spent a 2nd or 3rd round pick on a QB too sit for 2 or more years, other than filling need spots to keep Minnestoa at it’s high level and fight for a Super Bowl NOW! Ok let’s go for a Super Bowl win 2013. (Smart Very Smart)

Taylor Mays will likely be the best safety available at 30 and would be an absolute steal for the Vikings. You can read my comments about him under The Vikings Age article Vikings Draft Plans Are Anybodys Guess.

But now they are saying Jimmy Clausen could be available at 30. It would be tough to pass on him. This is a QB driven NFL. Teams must take the best QBs when they get a chance. Half of the teams are starting a first round QB right now. Disagree with Nick – everyone thought Chilly and the Vikings were wrong about T-Jack and they were!

I think that signing Lito means we pass on a corner in round 1. If Taylor Mays slips to 30 we will take him. He is raw, but is very coachable and will be a great safety. I don’t buy into the Tebow talk that much, I think it is more likely that Chilly was wanting to get a better look at Carlos Dunlap and be deceptive. Dunlap was a projected top 15 before he got in trouble. He could be a steal in the late second round or if the Vikes trade back.

This the first year I disagree with Mel Jr. if Taylor Mays was as dynamic as Mel says, he would never make it to pick 30 the film doesn’t lie. Check the film on Kaheem Jackson, Kyle Wilson and Brian Price, the sleeper in this group is Price DT UCLA. I think everbody is jumping on the Mays band wagon just because Mel put his name out there, Dunlap is a very smart idea I didn’t see that one, and with Allen, Edwards, Robinson who’s too say he wouldn’t be a nice fit. But I’d still look fill the spot that Pat Williams DT will leave when he departs, and the player is right there, (Brian Price) Mt. Cody looks more like a Nose Tackle and doesn’t fit Minnesota’s system.

To think I based my opinion of Taylor Mays on only Mel Kiper is a joke. The film doesn’t lie but the people that interpret the film do. You can read my comments about him under The Vikings Age article Vikings Draft Plans Are Anybodys Guess.
